Caribou County Faces High Tooth Decay Rates

A county survey by eastern Idaho dental officials reports 1,327 children examined with 8,225 decayed, missing or filled primary teeth and 807 permanent teeth untreated. Decay is common across ages 6 to 12, with treatment rates varying. calls include fluoridation in water, school based dental health programs, and expanded county dental health services via the Southeastern District Health Dept.

Governor Samuelson To Visit Soda Springs Sept 9

Governor Don Samuelson announced a "Capitol for a Day" tour taking him to Paris Montpelier and Soda Springs as part of "Take Government to the People" meetings. In Bear Lake and Caribou counties he will host open forums, noon luncheons, and an evening session with East Idaho legislators to discuss local issues and state accomplishments.

Arrest On Traffic Charge Uncovers Marihuana Cache

Randall K Wessell a 24 year old from Portland Oregon was arrested Saturday night by Soda Springs Police Officer Claude Snooks on a traffic charge. Subsequent questioning by Officers Snooks and Muller uncovered marijuana. Wessel was arraigned in Police Court Tuesday on unlawful possession of narcotics and bound over to District Court for trial. Bail set at 1000 dollars.

Skinner Family Holiday Includes Parade of Homes Visit

Mr and Mrs Ellis Skinner and family vacationed in Salt Lake City with Mr and Mrs Wayne Apgood and family on Wednesday and Thursday August 27 and 28 to attend the Parade of Homes and Promised Valley events. Their daughter Shirlene left Thursday for the LDS Gulf States mission at Shreveport Louisiana.

Governor Samuelson urged residents to attend meetings and submit questions in writing if time runs out. He noted many Idahoans, especially in northern, southern, and eastern counties, lack access to Boise offices and said bringing state government to the people fulfills a pledge to maintain close contact with Idahoans.

National Jeep Search and Rescue Board Meeting Here Sept 5 and 6

Caribou County Sheriff's Mobile Posse hosts the National Jeep Search and Rescue Assn board meeting in Soda Springs on September 5 and 6 with registration at Idaho Cafe. Attendees will tour Ballard Mine and enjoy a wives hobby shop, tea, social hour, and an outdoor dinner at Golf Course. Members from Idaho Oregon Wyoming Utah plus potential attendees from Montana Arizona Nevada are expected. The Posse, based in Las Vegas, trains in search and rescue and provides emergency support under civil defense, with membership requiring 18 years or older and approval by a two thirds vote, excluding other jeep organizations.
