Also notes a Caribou Life Club meeting and a wildlife project with installation crews and a Sunday volunteer gathering.
An order of confirmation in Soda Springs Probate Court confirms sale of controlling interest in Largilliere Company Bankers to W I Irvin and Thomas Frye of Idaho First National Bank Boise. Executor O R Baum says minority stockholders also sold holdings, aligning with the late F W Largilliere Jr policy to dispose of all capital stock to avoid burden and ensure a strong local bank.
A century ago on May 20 the Soda Springs site was chosen and surveyed for a town beside a new military post Camp Connor established by California Volunteers under General Patrick E Connor. The expedition brought 160 settlers. Soda Springs became Oneida County seat in 1864, later moved to Malad, and the town later revived growth to remain thriving today.
The Caribe County King and Queen contest will be held Saturday evening May 25 at the Grice fairgrounds starting at 7 00 pm. The Little Buckaroo King and Queen contest for June 22 will also occur that night with 24 entrants. Contestants are to wear Western shirts levis boots and hats. Senior King finalists include Dwight Hansen Jay Shipley Eldon Smith Kern Crump and Phillip Young.
Mike Hatch announced the Bancroft Pharmacy in Stancroft has new ownership and will continue to operate with quality and efficiency. A pharmacist will not be available at the present time, and continued patronage is appreciated.
Commencement exercises for Soda Springs High Scriol will be held Friday evening May 24 at 8 pm in the High School Auditorium. Thirty six seniors will receive diplomas with Dr Donald Walker president of Idaho State University delivering the main address.
Ray Little of Soda Springs was found guilty of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to murder in a two day Preston trial held Monday and Tuesday. Verdict returned at 3 30 pm with sentencing set for June 4. Little is in custody. case stems from a March 12 knife attack on Sheriff Ralph Marriott of Soda Springs.
In the North Gem Trustee election held Monday incumbents won. Eldred Hogan defeated Milton Gilbert 39 to 33 amid a large turnout. Russell Hebden led with 25 votes, while Maurice Perkins received 5 votes. An error in listing candidates caused by a phone filing mix up prompted apologies to Milton Gilbert.
The School Board of Class A District 150 calls an election for June 11 to authorize a 10 mill plant facilities levy for five years. Proceeds will fund a pay as you go building program addressing expanding needs at Soda Springs, including four new rooms at the Elementary School and four at the Junior High. Two polling places: Soda Springs High School and Grays Lake Elementary. Voters must be qualified Idaho electors, district residents over 30 days, and taxpayers or spouses of taxpayers within District No. 150.
The American Legion Auxiliary Blackburn-Call Unit 62 designates May 23 24 and 25 as Poppy Days in Soda Springs. Volunteers offer memorial poppies that provide 142 cents per piece to disabled veterans for therapy and support wartime families.
Bonneville Power Administration extends electricity marketing area into southern Idaho with projected tremendous economic impact. Interior Department notes EPA will deliver power at up to 70 percent below current Bureau of Reclamation rates and assume distribution from five federal hydro projects. Transmission line planned from Lewiston to Soda Springs to link southern Idaho and portions of Nevada and Wyoming with the Northwest Power System.
