Grim Toll On Highways Climbs Steadily
The 1965 Travelers Insurance annual highway accident booklet reports 48,500 deaths and 4,100,000 injuries on U S roads. Youthful drivers under 25, though 18 percent of licensed, account for over 30 percent of fatalities and 98 percent of non fatal mishaps. Travelers plans a large research program on man and environment, investing $250,000 with more to come.

Closed Fire Season Now In Effect
The closed fire season begins May 10 and bans burning on forest and range lands without a permit. Permits are available from State Forestry, U S Forest Service, and grazing district offices, which also offer burning guidance. Bancroft Boy Receives Union Pacific Scholarship
Kern Crump of Bancroft received a 200 Union Pacific Railroad scholarship for his active involvement in the F F A program. He has three years in North Gem Chapter livestock projects including beef dairy cattle sheep and hogs with farrowing underway. He attended the State Judging Contest in Moscow and helped on judging trips while earning lettered athletic achievements in football and basketball. He has held F F A offices and was elected Student Body President at North Gem High School.

Relocation of 30N Over Fish Creek Approved
The Idaho Highway Board approved relocating US 30N over Fish Creek Summit between Alexander and Lava Hot Springs. The 15.6 mile segment will replace the Bancroft circular route, at an estimated cost of six million dollars, with a ten year completion plan and road improvements to Bancroft.

Owen Gunnell of 160 West third South Street Soda Springs Idaho and Robert D Stoddard of 271 Gagon Drive have been appointed NRA Hunter Safety Instructors after passing knowledge tests and meeting hunting experience requirements. Cardinals Place Fourth In District Track Meet
The Soda Springs Cardinals finished fourth of eleven in the Class A Fifth District meet at Blackfoot. They totaled 314 points, behind Highland 5044, Pocatello 47, and Blackfoot 4514. First- three place finishers advance to the regional meet next Friday at Blackfoot. soda track results include Bob Stanley first in Shot Put and third in Discus, Merlyn Ringel placing in sprints and relays, and the 980 and Medley relays taking top spots.
