Divide Up the Land and You Share of US Acres
An analysis using ERS and SRS data estimates that a US family would own about 27 percent of total land divided among households. Of that, roughly 22 percent would be farmed, 9 acres pasture, 15 acres woodland for grazing, and 135 acres for farmstead and non farm uses. Livestock on government rented land would total about 51 percent acres, with grassland dominating. The typical farm contains nearly 9 acres cropland with diverse outputs and modest income, including 2877 pounds milk, 1.8 beef cattle head loss, 2 piglets, 0.4 sheep, 6.4 hens laying 113 dozen eggs, 58 broilers, 2 turkeys, and a farm value around 4086 dollars in 1970 real estate. Net income from 1969 operations was 316 dollars after 752 dollars expenses.
