Trial date set for knife attack case in Franklin County

The case arising from an alleged knife attack on Sheriff Ralph Marriott will be tried in Franklin County on May 20 with Judge Rasmussen presiding.

Soda Springs Wins District Track Meet at Pocatello

Soda Springs edged Grace Red Devils 61 to 46 in the Fifth District Class H meet led by Lynn Johnson’s 2:08 in the 880 and North Gem’s 440 relay record. West Side and North Gem posted strong showings as Cra Walker and Paul Bingham also earned wins and seconds for Grace and Soda. The meet also notes Camp Meads Daughters of Utah Pioneers meet on May 10 at 2:00 p.m.

Grace High School names three valedictorians for 1964

Grace High School selects Paula Dee Dare Wilker Kathleen Hunter and Fara Lee Wilker as valedictorians for the 1964 commencement. Each has held top honors in academics and activities and will give speeches at the May 24 exercises. Main speaker is former Superintendent Homer Williams of Hailey.

Boys and Girls Invited To Join Sub Campaign

The Caribou County Sun announces a Self Help Subscription campaign for Caribou County youths. The program starts Friday May 10 with indefinite duration and offers cash commissions or points convertible to cash. Registration on Friday May 9 at the Sun office or with a Sun rep at Grace and Bancroft, Peterson's AG Market 4 to 4:45 pm, Bancroft Pharmacy 5 to 5:30 pm. There is no entry fee. all entrants can earn to buy bicycles, camping gear, and more.

North Gem High Graduation Set for May in Bancroft

North Gem High will graduate 19 seniors on Wednesday May 15 in the LDS Chapel at Bancroft Idaho. Valedictorian Joseph Holbrook and Salutatorian Barbara McLain will speak. The program features invocations welcomes solos and a guest speaker Dr. Howard E. Salisbury.

South Pacific on Stage Tonight at High School

After weeks of work the big musical South Pacific is ready for presentation. The first show is tonight, Thursday May 9, with further performances Friday and Saturday at the high school auditorium. Tickets remain available at the door. reservations for the small reserved sections sold out early causing confusion. Directed by Owen Nelson with musical director Brent Covington and technical director Dave Rayborn, the cast features Sue Rayborn, Winifred Allgaffer, Max Haddock, Eve Anderson, Jerry Croney, Lila Lee Sorensen, Dennis Moser, Frank Christensen, George Dupin, and Russell Crouse, plus Dean Martineau and others in supporting roles. The two-island World War II setting includes five songs amid a two-act production with a chorus of men and women.

Caribou County Hospital Open House Set During Hospital Week

Caribou County Hospital announces an open house to celebrate National Hospital Week with tours from 1:00 to 3:00 PM and a 7:00 to 9:00 PM visiting window. The LPN Association and Hospital Auxiliary will host teas on May 15 and May 19 respectively, while local students from Bancroft Grace and Soda Springs High Schools participate in class sessions. The interior has been redecorated and waiting areas remodeled as part of the year’s effort to showcase the hospital and its career opportunities.

John Judd owner of Bancroft Pharmacy announced the Bancroft store will close Friday May 17. The prescription file will be taken over by City Drug Co in Soda Springs. Judd plans to leave Bancroft after closing transactions are completed.

Tastee Elections Slated For Grace And Bancroft Districts

Grace and Bancroft and North Gem School Dist No 149 plan May elections to elect trustees. North Gem votes May 20 for Zone 1 Bancroft and Zone 3 Chesterfield with incumbents Hogan and Hebdon. Grace votes May 22 for Zone 2 Lago Niter and Zone 3 Thatcher with incumbents Hubbard and Smith. Nominations due six days before election by petitions signed by 5 to 10 district electors. voters must reside in the district, be a parent or guardian of a child under 21, or pay real taxes in the district.

Recommendation of Utah Governor Draws Fire

The Utah governor’s recommendation to the Bureau of Reclamation to finish the Bear River project report immediately provoked protests in eastern Idaho. Senator Moss pushed a Senate bill to authorize construction before Utah or Idaho approval, while Idaho urged delay for further study. Mayors Weli Stock and Mantoe are referenced on the back page.
