Beef Field Day Promotes SODA SPRINGS Fair

Roy Howell announces Beef Field Day June 29 at 7 0 Dan at Handing Livestock and Land Co yard west of Blackfoot. The event accompanies the fair’s call to canvass beef program with 160 day test on steers and live growth evaluation to identify superior cattle for producer and consumer. Tours and weight gain discussions planned for attendees.

U P and L pays large 1971 Caribou County taxes

Utah Power and Light Co. ranks as a major taxpayer in Caribou County with 295 514 dollars in 1971 taxes. Idaho statewide tax share totals 1 379 305 across counties with 728 000 earmarked for state schools. Local government funds also receive portions while county schools claim the lion’s share. Separately the University of Utah honors society elects 34 new members based on two years in residence and high grade point averages. Wanda Sorensen of Soda Springs among those selected. Air Force Commendation Medal for Grace Native

Roya J. Christensen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orval J. Christensen of Grace, received the Air Force Commendation Medal for meritorious service as a procurement officer at Hill AFB Utah. He is assigned at Luke AFB with a Tactical Air Command unit providing air support for U.S. ground forces. A 1959 Grace High graduate, he earned a Utah State University degree and an MBA in 1967 from UC Berkeley. His wife Joan is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray L. Lillywhite of Alameda California.

Fine and Jail For Vandals Who Shoot Mailboxes

Postmaster John Delo of Soda Springs reports recent vandalism of rural mail boxes. Some boxes are blown up or shot at, with postal authorities pursuing cases vigorously under U S C 1705. Violators face fines up to 1000 dollars or up to three years imprisonment.

Red Cross Commended for Flood Relief Efforts

A Nixon signed message commends Red Cross workers and volunteers for rapid flood response in Rapid City. It notes finite disaster funds and announces a nationwide five million dollar fundraising campaign to sustain humanitarian aid and future emergencies.

Immunization Clinic Set for Soda Springs July 6

The Southeastern District Health Department hosts a monthly immunization clinic on Thursday July 6 from 8 to 9 30 am in the Public Health Nurse office at the courthouse Soda Springs. Vaccines include diphtheria tetanus whooping cough polio measles and rubella.

Grace Army Man Receives Meritorious Service Medal

Major Rex S. Roper of the Medical Service Corps United States Army is cited for outstanding performance as executive officer at Sandia Base Army Hospital and Defense Atomic Support Agency. He earned the Meritorious Service Medal and is stationed at Bassett Army Hospital Fairbanks Alaska. He hails from Grace attends Grace High School and is married to Adele Merrill.

Local Men Awarded Keep Idaho Green Honors

The Governor’s Keep Idaho Green awards were given to Bowell Thomas Ario Hor ks and Chet Hopkins of Soda Springs for their role in suppressing a small Sept 1 1971 fire on Trout Creek Ridge near Palisades Reservoir. They reported the blaze at Freedom Ranger Station after covering 20 miles.

Ambulance Group Holds Meeting in Caribou County

Caribou County Volunteer Ambulance Organization held its monthly meeting June 19 at Caribou Memorial Hospital classrooms. President Bill Stewart led the session with Boots Pyle reading last time’s minutes. The group discussed operations, reports, 14 ambulances rung, and 16 patients transported in May and June. A training session on sterile equipment and procedures was conducted by Keith Isle.

Class of 62 Plans Reunion at Soda Springs High

Soda Springs High School class of 192 plans a ten year reunion with a noon social for members and families, followed by a no host dinner at Cedar View Supper Club. Attendees are asked to RSVP to Bruce Dredge at 547-4119.
