The Soda Springs Chamber announces July floats contest with 150 dollars in prizes for first, second and third place. Bjorkman chairs the committee overseeing participation and events after the parade. The American Legion plans a fireworks show and a parade day program includes kids races and a Little League game.
A bidding process for a federal phosphate lease near Soda Springs Gradley Idaho awarded to a St. Louis company. Bids included FMC Corp at 24 500 and others from Boise Salt Lake City and local firms. Total Idaho share amounts to sixty six thousand dollars with funding to the general leases program.
Golfers will gather in Springs this Sunday for an inter city link event. Tee off is scheduled for 9:00 am, with doors opening at 8:30 am. organizers urge participants to bring a doughnut and arrive early.
Bancroft resident Mike O'Brien 38 or 39 died when his car left U.S. 30 near Soda Springs and plunged into a reservoir. Body recovered about 12:30 p.m. in 12 to 14 feet of water. Police release pending details. O'Brien was a Chem Construction mechanic and World War II veteran, survived by widow and three sons. Burial held in Dillon. service at St Marys Catholic Church in Soda Springs.
Miss Linda Call of Bancroft Miss Caribou 1966 competes in the Miss Idaho Contest in Boise this week. thirty contestants participate with each receiving a new Oldsmobile for transport. Call performs in Swim Suit June 23 and Talent and Formal June 24 at the Owyhee Hotel. The pageant final broadcast on KID TV Saturday June 25 from 9 to 10:30 pm.
Stan Watts of BYU will speak at the Seven-Stake youth conference in Preston June 24 to 26, joined by Elaine Cannon and other speakers. The three day program includes parades rodeo roadshow Oscars concerts and varied sports and clinics at Preston High School and stake houses with sessions led by church and community leaders.
A Forest Service training session was conducted Tuesday June 21 1966 in Soda Springs Idaho. Caribou Forest Staff Officers Dick Sanders and Ken Roberts plus Forest Rangers Mike Hanson Freedom Wyoming Tat Smith Montpelier Tommy Farr Pocatello Roy Daniels and Soda Springs District Ranger Assistant Paul Kilhmer Malachy and Keith Barthlome attended. The meeting aimed to provide current allotment analysis training and update officers on recent research information.
Nearly 60 of the Wests top hydroplane and runabout boats will compete in the second Phosphate Cup Regatta on July 3 at Soda Springs. Eleven classes race 22 heats on Alexander Reservoir. Last years winners list includes Gary Patterson and Kent Knudsen among others. The event starts at 1:00 p m Sunday west of Soda Springs.
Idaho officials report a strong spring chinook run on the Salmon River and tributaries led by the Middle Fork and East Fork with favorable fishing conditions. Biologist James C. Simpson notes two distinct runs, summer and spring, spawning in different areas and timelines. Downstream fisheries agencies have halted summer chinook fishing on the Columbia River. Training sessions for staff were led by Ken Roberts and Dick Sanders.
The North Gem Board proposes a five mill plant facilities levy for ten years to repair remodel and renovate buildings and purchase transportation and equipment. It lists needs including heating overhaul roofing for gym addition and old grade school, updated special education facilities, a new four passenger bus, lighting upgrades, counseling space, modern sewing machines and typewriters, a calculator, and replacement of bell intercom systems. Polls open July 8 1966 from 2 to 8 pm. total tax with the levy would shift from 30 mills to 35 mills for 1966-77 with no new classrooms planned unless population grows.

Frazier from the Southeastern District Public Health Department spoke on public health in southeastern Idaho. Ruth Circle hosted and Lead Circle presented the program. about 25 attended and refreshments were served.

Charles Christiansen a local jewelry operator is elected to head the Soda Springs Chamber of Commerce by the board of directors. Irving Norcross of O K Tire Shop becomes vice president with other board members named and installation set for July 1 with Congressman George Hansen as speaker.
Robert Ford O Grady 18 of Soda Springs died Friday night when his motorcycle struck a truck at the First East Street and U S 30N intersection. Coroner’s inquest set for Wednesday. Burial at Fairview Cemetery. Survivors: Ford and Luella May Hogan for Grady, a brother Floyd, a sister Frances. Funeral followed June 21.

Rupp announces a continuing prohibition on all fireworks on Caribou National Forest lands starting 12:01 a.m. July 1 1966 through the fire season to curb man caused fires on about one million acres. Public cooperation urged to prevent fires during the July 4 holiday and fire season. Violators face penalties and legal action.
