Bancroft a historic coal chute and water tank were razed by the railroad. Built 1913 the chute served trains between 1882 and 1913 and a 50,000 gallon wood tank stood nearby. The water tank was replaced in 1913 and the village now negotiates with Oregon Short Line for use of the water supply.

Sheriff Arrests Parole Violators In County
Sheriff Ralph Marriott arrested two men on parole violation and no account check charges this month. Johnny Cates, 29, Bannock county, was taken near Meeks Confectionery on June 2 but the no account check count was dismissed and he was released to state authorities on parole violation. Hale R Grandsma, 47, Orden, was arrested in Indio California on June 7 for parole violation and returned to Soda Springs by June 15 after waiving extradition. Grandsma, paroled in 1953 for no account checks, broke parole July 1954 and faces sentence scheduled with Judge Carver Friday.
