Grace Man Honored as District 39 Lion of the Year

Kenneth Lloyd, new Grace Lions Club president, was honored at Lions International District 39 convention held June 3–5 at Sun Valley. He received a District Lion The Year award for 39 E, for organizing new clubs in Georgetown Franklin Challis Twin Bridges and Rockland.

Monsanto announces deep gas well in Fremont County Wyoming

Monsanto Company reports completion of the Long Butte Unit No 1 in the Mesaverde formation. The 15,094 to 16,640 foot open hole well flowed 10 million cubic feet per day with tubing pressure around 7 000 psi and shut in pressure near 9 200 psi. The unit spans over 15 000 acres with Monsanto owning substantial interests and planning confirmation drilling within 60 days.

Governors urged max state benefits for Idaho residents

Governor John V. Evans told Idaho Department of Lands employees that fiscal accountability is the watchword of his administration and that Idahoans should receive maximum benefit for every dollar. He urged honest reporting to taxpayers and fair sharing of government costs. The report also notes a growing horse industry in Gem Valley with new high breds and racing facilities. Restoration of the H. K. Porter steam engine to Soda Springs

The H. K. Porter diesel engine found at Alexander Reservoir near Soda Springs Idaho is restored at Omaha Shops. It will return July 2 with a 2 p.m. ceremony in the city park. The six ton dinkey was built circa 1890 by H. K. Porter Company and used in the 1924 dam project before being buried under 20 feet of water.

Big Game Biologist Heads Study On Phosphate Mining Impacts

Lonn Kuck, senior game research biologist, leads a cooperative Idaho project with the Department of Fish and Game and the Caribou National Forest to radio tag deer elk and moose. The aim is to map habitat use and migration to guide mining decisions and reduce wildlife impacts. Measles Clinic Held Friday in Soda Springs Courthouse

The health department will run a special measles clinic Friday June 17 from 8 to 10 am in the Soda Springs Courthouse. Two Soda Springs teens diagnosed with measles and a possible third case earlier in May prompt vaccination appeals for children over 15 months and revaccination for those vaccinated before 1969. Campground Hosts Sought for Caribou National Forest

Caribou National Forest seeks campground hosts under the Forest Service volunteer program. Duties include greeting the public providing information and answering questions about recreation areas with light maintenance. Hosts receive a campsite and limited expense compensation while supplying their own gear.
