Open House Planned at AP and L Preston Division HQ

Power and Light announces an open house for its Preston Division service headquarters at 509 South 2nd East, June 15 from 2 to 7. About 40 employees work in the $200,000 steel and masonry building housing drafting, engineering, warehousing, and truckport. Demonstrations include equipment and safety demos plus a heat pump heating system and electric heat pumps for summer cooling.

New Pastor Assigned To St. Marys Church In Soda Springs

The Rev Joseph A Muha has arrived as pastor of St Marys parish in Soda Springs effective May 31 He comes from Association Church Ferdinand Idaho where he served as associate pastor Muha born July 15 1934 in Homestead PA to Andrew and Susan Muha He was ordained May 21 196 by Cardinal Vagnozas and has served in Boise and Idaho Falls St Marys parish covers five southeastern Idaho counties except Pocatello with six churches and an area of about 6000 square miles He has visited Pennsylvania six times most recently six weeks ago for his grandfather s funeral and says he is glad to be here.

Navaho Crew Puts Ballast On U P Main Line

An extra work gang of about 350 Navaho Indians from New Mexico are at work on a 12 mile stretch of U P track starting at Soda Springs. They lay ballast and raise and replace ties. They began Sunday and expect completion in about a week at a rate of three to five miles daily. The men operate seasonally in northern areas and repair lines in California and Utah in winter.

Local Man Among 86 Aboard Plane Skid At Salt Lake

Walter Bingham of Soda Springs was a passenger on a Boeing 727 that slid off the Salt Lake International runway while landing. He saw no injuries among passengers as they exited via emergency chutes. Cranes lifted the 153000 pound aircraft from mud the next day. damage was about 750000, plane valued around six million.

U S Air Force Captain Jared P. Lowe of Soda Springs earned the Air Medal at Korat Royal Thai AFB Thailand for air action in Southeast Asia. The navigator bombardier in a Pacific Air Forces unit, he is a 1954 Preston High School graduate commissioned in 1959, who served in the Korean War, and is married to Floy Jenkins of Houston.

Stolen Arms Recovered In Caribou County

The Caribou County Sheriff's office reports recovery of a pistol stolen from Army Sur plus Sports Store in Soda Springs around March 29. Also recovered are a 20 gauge shotgun a Huntington automatic .22 rifle two fishing poles and reels stolen from Floyd Holley’s Eight Mile Canyon home last Saturday. A minor awaiting probate court action has been placed with parents.

Bob Stanley left Tuesday morning June 4 for Rota Spain after a 10 day visit with his parents. Bigger and Better Fourth of July Parade in Prospect

Soda Springs gears up for a larger parade with junior and senior divisions. Junior entrants include children groups led by Soda Springs Junior High School band, with $40 in prize money. Senior floats divide four divisions commercial industrial churches and organizations with $25 and $15 prizes funded by the Chamber of Commerce.

Reservists urged to check training status in Idaho

Lieutenant Colonel Kenneth W. Alpert of the Boise USAR School will visit the Pocatello Reserve Center on Wednesday June 19 1968 from 7 30 to 9 30 p m. He invites reservists from Army Navy Air Force Marine Corps and National Guard to discuss training for the coming school year starting in September.
