Idaho Opening Day Bring Heavy Fishing to Henrys Lake Area

Anglers flocked to Idaho water for opening day with many boats at Henrys Lake Reservoir by early morning. Reports noted several trout over three pounds, including a 4 pounder, and a winner from Burley with large prize fish. Roads were good and water conditions favorable, with popular spots near Driggs Preston and the river mouth area drawing crowds. A state emergency closure affects the river and sections upstream to the bridge until conditions improve.

Valley convention draws local, regional Lions members

The 25th annual event in Sun Springs hosts many Lions Club members including Mr. and Mrs. Bitton and Mr. Burt along with Clarence L from Manawa and M E Piccaneo from Bancroft who attends as an international representative. The gathering occurs Friday through Sunday at the Lansberry home in Soda.

Little Buckaroo King and Queen Contest Saturday

Junior Rodeo contestants compete Saturday night at the Grace Fairgrounds for the Little Buckaroo titles. Casey Hogan of Thatcher Cristie Bollar of Soda Springs Jo Manda Barthlome of Grace and Debbie Elsmore of Thatcher are named as finalists with others invited to enter by calling Alice Smith before 7 30 Friday evening.

BYU Education Week Sets June 13 to 15 in Montpelier

Brigham Young University and Ricks College sponsor a three day education week in Montpelier June 13 14 and 15 with sessions on grooming current events religion genealogy home making and family life. Eleven visiting educators from the two schools will conduct the classes and the 3 D s will give an evening concert Tuesday at 9 00. Ward bishoprics can provide schedules and tickets.

New Procedure Established For Gas Tax Refunds

IRS announces farmers will claim gas tax on non-highway farm use as a credit on income tax returns. Congress enacted the change with instructions to accompany 1966 return forms. The refund period extends from July 1, 1965 to December 31, 1966.

Chesterfield Ward Wins Roadshow Festival

The Idaho Stake MIA Road show Festival drew large crowds in Bancroft and Soda Springs. Five traveling troupes performed on the theme As You Like It with To Be Or Not To Be Spring earning Chesterfield Ward first place and a June 24 Preston festival berth. Bancroft Ward’s The Mice's Picnic earned second. Soda Springs Third First and Second Wards also showcased acts.

Dates Sets For Youth Conference In Preston This July

Southeastern Idaho and Northern Utah youths plan the Third Interstate Youth Conference in Preston from July 24 to 26. The event includes the Intermountain Explorer Rodeo parade roadshow festival athletic contests clinics workshops sessions a variety show and a Sunday program. Wayne Carlson leads the youth committee with Steven Norton and Lucy Bingham as officers. About 1 600 participants are expected. Special sessions for M Men and Gleaners accompany stake activities and a kickoff theme Where The Action Is.

Music Scholarship Recipient Stephen Warner to Idaho

Stephen Warner son of Mr and Mrs Perry Warner receives a music scholarship to the University of Idaho for 1946 87. He plans a career in music education after attending Ricks College on a music scholarship. He played solo trombone in the Symphony Band Orchestra and Stage Band and performed with Kollege Kings and Jam Orchestra.

The 78th Utah State University commencement was held Saturday June 4 in Logan’s George Nelson Fieldhouse with Interior Secretary Stewart Udall as speaker and recipient of an honorary Doctor of Laws. Baccalaureate services were Friday with Elder Marion D Hanks delivering the sermon.

Wells Cargo bowlers take City Championship and fare at Pocatello event

Wells Cargo from Soda Springs led by Margaret Deaton Jackie Coleman Roo Prescott Dana Biggerlow and Barbara Greer won the City Championship with a 2300 scratch series. They placed 36th in the state tournament at Pocatello amid 707 entrants and won early league title earning a spot in the Champion of Champions event in Pocatel lo. First prize at the meet went to Dickman Texaco with 3045, Conoco earned 70 second prize, and Soda Wells Cargo claimed third with a 50 prize.

No Action Yet on Garbage Contract in Soda Springs

The Soda Springs City Council has not awarded a garbage pickup contract as bids are under study. Two bids came from Pocatello firms. A petition with about 300 names asks the city to wait for a referendum before acting.

Salvation Army Starts Drive with Outreach Visit

Salvation Army begins its annual maintenance fund drive with service extension representative Ron McGowan arriving around June 9 for a two week briefing tour. He will meet Rev David Crawford of Soda Springs and target funding for 23 local services including food lodging aid and medical help via Booth Memorial Hospital. Contributions designated for service extension will be sent to Rev Crawford in Soda Springs who serves as treasurer for Caribou County.

Auditors elect officers at Idaho county meeting

Maxine Bateman of Madison County was named president of the Idaho Association of County Auditors Friday afternoon in Twin Falls. Elected as vice president was Lois McClain of Power County and Alice Weigand of Benewah County as secretary. The legislative committee includes William Trail Ekmore County Clarence Panting Ada Doris L Kenny Bonner M K Kelly Cline Sarah and Kenneth M Fowler Caribou. The resolutions will be presented to the state legislature.

State Highway bids to repair nine miles of US 30N

The State Highway Department called bids for reconditioning shoulders and a roadmix bituminous surface on nine miles of US 30N between Soda and Bancroft. The project includes seal coating 93 miles between Bancroft and Alexander Junction in Caribou County, with a completion target of forty five working days.

Golden Passport Promises Broad Access to Federal Recreation

The Golden Passport offers entry to all designated Federal recreation areas including National Parks. Purchasers support outdoor land and water conservation and receive a wallet card admitting themselves and companions in private vehicles and some public transit. It lists multiple charge areas across Soda Springs, Caribou, Cache, and nearby forests with varying valid dates and purchasing offices in Idaho.

Bus Schedule For Red Cross Swim Program

Bus routes for multiple grade levels transport students to Lava with specific times and pickup points.
