They call Senate leaders Church and Cooper’s motion to cut off funds a “declaration of surrender” and a “stab in the back” to U S servicemen, while defending Nixon’s approach as necessary to protect South Vietnam.
The University of Idaho awarded a record 1,506 degrees at its 75th Commencement on May 31. Among them were 44 doctorates and 1,176 bachelor's degrees. local area graduates include Ray V. Bitton Jr. and Alan G. Shuler of Soda Springs with bachelor's degrees, and Stephan J. Warner of Soda Springs with an MBA.

The Hospital Auxiliary Odds and Ends Sale will be held June 24 25 and 28 at the Masonic Hall. Donors may call local organizers in Conda Grace Bancroft and nearby towns to arrange pickups. A truck will visit each town on June 22 and 28 to collect donated items including large furniture from homes.
Grace Elementary School students earned awards on May 27 for the Americanism essay program by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Sixty two essays were submitted from grades 3 through 6 with first, second, and third place recipients named, plus honorable mention and prizes including magazine subscriptions and flags.
The Idaho Stake M.LA. Road shows will be held Tuesday June B at 8 00 pm at the Bancroft Church house and at the Stake Center in Soda Springs. All seven wards will participate. The theme is If I Had A Wishbone. Everyone is invited to attend this special evening of entertainment.

Bonneville County Idaho land auction offers 40 acres of state property located 1% miles south of Bone store on the Idaho Falls to Soda Springs road. The tract fronts Twin Creek, is fenced on all sides, near Willow Creek fishing, with potential spring water development. Auction scheduled 2:00 pm Friday June 5 at the Bonneville County Courthouse. Area Administrator L D Benedick announced.
Mr and Mrs George Hawker have returned to Soda Springs after spending eight months in Alaska.
The Soda Springs Police Department unveiled a new patrol station wagon replacing the old car. Police Chief Wilcox said the wagon is a modern multi purpose vehicle used nationwide in police work. It will be outfitted to handle prisoners and collect traffic signs and may carry a collapsible stretcher to serve as an emergency ambulance.
A Boise area public hearing on surface mining regulations was announced for June 10 in Pocatello. Rep J Ward Chatburn chair of the State Lands-Surface Mining Committee said the 8:00 p m meeting at Idaho State University Student Union Building will gather views on proposed farm surface mining legislation for the Forty first Idaho Legislature with a committee visit to open pit mines in Southeastern Idaho and Advisors from mining and environmental groups present.
D U P county convention set for Saturday, June 18 at the Grace Stake House. First meeting at 9 30 am with luncheon at noon served by Mt. Sherman Camp of Grace. At 2 00 pm the group travels to Ivins to dedicate a Pioneer Monument at Ivins Cemetery with Mrs Phyllis Olsen presiding. Bear Lake and Rich County attendees expected.
Funeral services were held in Preston for LaMar Larsen Nash 51 killed when a truck ran over him at the Terteling Mines phosphate open pit near Soda Springs Idaho State Mine Inspector O T Hansen said Nash who had lived in Soda Springs seven years was a construction worker for McGregor Triangle Construction Co Survivors include his widow two children and five grandchildren with brothers and sisters listed from Idaho Utah and British Columbia Canada Burial followed in Franklin Cemetery.
Soda Springs plans a June 30, 1970 water revenue bond election to authorize up to 930,000 in bonds at a maximum 9 percent rate. If approved, the 1968 $450,000 issue would be replaced with a smaller 20 year bond, aided by a $200,500 federal grant, reducing borrowing costs and avoiding tax increases.
Regional Forester Vern Hamre says all National Forest recreation areas will charge a $7 principal fee and a $1 daily fee, not interchangeable with National Park Service permits. Golden Eagle program ends March 31 1970 with potential exchange option if Congress approves.
