New Congress Becomes More Urban in Composition
The incoming Washington Congress is described as the most urban in U S history with about 430 House members and only five from districts where farming dominates. About 65 come from districts with farming ten percent or more, while many lawmakers represent districts with little or no farm population. The shift suggests farm legislation will be framed as national policy. A cartoon caption follows noting a girl rejects life in a trailer with a marriage proposal.
