The Idaho Tuberculosis Association reports the Christmas Seal Campaign is $15,000 short of its $75,000 goal, with $60,000 received so far. Funds support tuberculin skin testing in Magic Valley and planned programs in Idaho Falls and the upper Snake River Valley, plus chest X-rays, educational materials, and public health services for TB research and patient support.
The Soda Springs Lions Club will host District Governor LaMar A. Price of District 39-E. Price, longtime Lions member and former Montpelier club leader, travels with a record of 20 years as a Lion and 15 years of perfect attendance. He will advise Soda Springs officers on Lions administration and humanitarian service during a visit at the Idaho Cafe on January 17.
Public hearings called by Governor Smylie on the Bear River Oneida Narrows project drew strong opposition at Grace and Preston with only Preston showing notable support. Montpelier's hearing saw unanimous opposition to the proposed 86 million dollar plan though some speakers urged revisions. Attendance ran high, with 31 protests at Montpelier and 16 at Grace as residents voiced concerns over inundation and tax implications.

Jess Crowther of Logan who worked for Thomas Harris of Soda Springs for five years died Monday evening in Caribou County Hospital after illness. Funeral services were planned for Crowther in Soda Springs with burial at a local cemetery.
