Rash of robberies hits Bancroft area schools and shops

A series of overnight break ins in Bancroft target North Gem School Frank's Chevron Wilson's Farm Service and Bancroft airport offices. Thieves pried doors and windows, stole cash and items totaling hundreds while some locations reported no losses. Deputy Max Smith and custodian Hyrum McLain reported times between midnight and 1 30 am.

Trading Stamps Drive Aims to Aid Retarded Children

A statewide drive sponsored by the Idaho Association for Retarded Children seeks 10 000 dollars in S and H Green Stamps to fund playground equipment for new child development centers in Lewiston Idaho Falls and Twin Falls and Christmas gifts for more than 700 residents at the Idaho State School and Hospital in Nampa. Local groups join in with deposits accepted at City Drug Fowler's Market Lalla Tin's Food Town in Soda Springs Lowe Drug in Grace and Conda Store in Conda. A 1963 drive collected about 7 000 books to buy a bus for the Idaho State School and Hospital.

Cardinals Win Grace Invitational Wrestling Meet

Soda Springs wrestlers dominated the Grace Invitational with seven individual champions and 106 points. Grace finished second with 79 points and one title. North Gem and Cokeville tied for third at 63 points with three and one champions respectively. Final action saw Sturm pin Wilson Grace and Dunn Grace win by decision over Ashbaker. Johnson of North Gem placed third.

Wilcox Named Soda Springs Police Chief and Blevins Patrolman

The Soda Springs City Council appoints Brynn Wilcox as police chief replacing Darrell Lallatin. Tom Blevins is named patrolman to fill Wilcox’s former post, with other officers Claude Snooks and Marvin Daniels remaining on the force.

Idaho and Wyoming propose Interstate 15 to connect McCammon to Little America via Fish Creek, seeking federal funding for about 87 miles in Idaho and Wyoming. Consolidation Vote Set for Two Idaho Districts

Caribou County Commissioners announce a special election on January 14 for School Districts No. 149 North Gem-Bancroft and No. 150 Soda Springs to decide consolidating into Joint School District No. 145. Polling places will operate 12 noon to 8 pm in Soda Springs Bancroft and nearby areas. A majority in both districts is required for passage.

Special Lighted Tree Honors Our War Dead

The Sun reprints Craig Call story about a Christmas tree with a small cluster of bulbs beside a war memorial plaque. The monument, started in the 1940s, honors local service members from World War I and II and later the Korean War. The plaque bears the slogan Let there be no more.

Grand Prizes To Be Awarded Saturday In Soda Springs

The Merchants Committee of the Soda Springs Chamber of Commerce will give two grand prizes on Saturday December 21. A portable television set and 100 in merchandise certificates will be awarded with many additional gifts including more turkeys.
