Postoffice To Be Open Saturday In Soda Springs

Postmaster John Delo announced the Soda Springs postoffice will be open all day Saturday December 16 to accommodate Christmas mailing. The extended hours aim to ease holiday service for residents and shoppers.

County Receives Fed Revenue Sharing Funds

Congressman Orval Hansen announced first entitlements under the General Revenue Sharing Program are mailed to Idaho state and local governments. December checks totaling 10.48 million cover January 1 to June 30 1972 with 6.94 million distributed to municipal and county governments. Courthouse to close at noon December 22 for holiday. reopens December 26.

The Soda Springs Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a home lighting contest with cash prizes awarded. Judging will be conducted by the Chamber Board of Directors and decorations will be evaluated on Monday December 18.

Grace Singing Group Honored At National Farm Bureau Meeting

The Grace Quartet from Coeur d'Alene was selected to represent the Idaho Farm Bureau at the National Convention in Los Angeles. They performed in the general session with Governor Reagan as speaker, receiving a standing ovation and an encore request from Idaho delegates. Members Greg Toone Steve Krogh Kerry Christensen and Brent Taylor shared the memorable experience.

4-H Awards Highlight Annual Recognition Dinner

At Soda Springs Junior High School on Saturday afternoon December 9 about 100 people attended the 4-H Recognition Dinner. Chad Panting earned the 4-H Council Scholarship and multiple pins and certificates were awarded for achievements across county projects including dairy foods, beef, photography, and clothing with several top model honors and special recognitions for long-time 4-H participants.

Grace Shoppers Win Prizes in Christmas Drawings

Grace Business Men and Women's organization plans twenty prize drawings all through December. Local merchants donate values from five to four dollars in trade with envelopes redeemed at participating shops. Next two Saturdays feature additional prizes including meals, beauty services, and cash-like trade credits to be awarded at Grace Hardware lot.

Open House at New Grace Library December 9

Grace Library celebrated its opening with an open house on Saturday December 9. Grace Literary Club and Grace Library Board welcomed patrons to the new building featuring art displays, organized book areas, and a basement meeting room. Security and donor acknowledgments were noted, with refreshments served and a display of remodeling photos. Attendees included local officials and library supporters from Soda Springs, Downey, and nearby towns.

Burgess Couple Await Holiday Reunion in Idaho

Major and Mrs Donnie W Burgess were due in Pocatello and Soda Springs on Wednesday. Mrs Burgess flew to Hawaii to watch her husband during rest and recreation leave as his overseas assignment ends, with Major Burgess planning to return to Soda Springs for the holidays.

VFW Voice of Democracy Winners Named from Grace High

Caribou County VFW announced winners of the Voice of Democracy audition from Grace High School. Peter Clegg took first, Jolene Harris second, and Lou Dawn Izatt third after tape speeches judged in Soda Springs by Mrs Tim Daly Mrs Dean Taylor and Jerry Smith. The topic was My Responsibility to Freedom. The next judging will be in the District where Peters talk will represent Caribou County. A Christmas program is set for Grace Presbyterian Church on Sunday December 17 at 11 am with children finalizing practice that morning. The Unicorn Tapestry notes 15th and 16th century secular and religious scenes including Court and hunting themes such as Hunt of the Unicorn in The Cloisters New York.

Ten winners claimed prizes in the Soda Springs Merchants Money Tree drawing last Saturday. More drawings set for Dec 16 and 23 with unclaimed prizes from prior Saturdays awarded at the final draw.
