A heavy Sunday night snowstorm dumped nearly a foot, closing some schools in the Snake River Valley. A bitter cold snap followed with record lows across Idaho towns Pocatello -28, Idaho Falls -31, Soda Springs -26 to -31. winds threaten highway travel as temperatures edge to -15 by morning.
The 1973 ASC community committeemen were elected by farmers in Caribou County. Delegates to the county convention determine chairmen and alternates for the coming year. The convention will elect one county committeeman and two alternates. ASC committees oversee REAP Wheat and Feed Grain Programs Sugar Commodity Loans Farm Storage Wool programs.
Rock Springs boys high in Wyoming dominated the Soda Springs Invitational over a two day meet. They scored 165 points with two champions while Provo Utah placed second with 94 points and two champions. Other champions were Aberdeen, Intermountain, and Box Elder. Caribou County High Schools earned seconds and thirds. Standings show Marsh Valley 77, Aberdeen 59, Intermountain 54, Challis 29, Soda Springs 20, Malad 19, North Gem 8.
Idaho Farm Bureau members plan to attend the 54th annual Am entan Farm Bureau Federation convention in Los Angeles California. Mrs Milton Smith Thatcher and Grace Grace Idaho quartet are to participate in general sessions and the national Farm Bureau Talent show. The event runs December 11 and 12 with a Lawrence Welk Orchestra entertainment and an annual awards program following the recognition.
The Idaho Stake Conference will be held at the Idaho Stake Center on Saturday and Sunday October 9 and 10. A leadership session is planned Saturday at 7 30 pm with stake presidency high council and clerks among attendees. Sunday services start at 10 00 am followed by Sunday School for children ages 3 through 5.
Police chief Wilcox of Soda Springs urges motorists to follow National Safety Council guidance to improve visibility plan ahead and practice starting in heavy snow. He lists traction aids emergency kit items and driving tips to reduce hazards and keep roads passable for emergency services.
Judy Sibbett and Chris Lang entered a ten minute Antigone scene at the State Drama Festival in Coeur d'Alene on December 1 and earned a superior rating from three judges. Their coach Mrs Dalton guided the duo through district and regional rounds, and judges praised the performance with remarks like Beautifully done and A fine job.
Grace Literary Club invites all to tour the new Grace Library on Saturday December 9 from noon to 5 PM. View the attractive new facility, library aids, and the basement meeting room carpeted for patrons.
The Idaho Stake girls volleyball tournaments run December 8 and 9 under Idaho Stake Sports Director Mrs. E Caine Wilde. Friday games start 4 pm with 1B 2B then 3B Chesterfield and 14 Bancroft 3A 2A, Fort Ward bye. Saturday opens 1A 3A Bancroft Chesterfield 1B 2 4 3B.
Santa will visit with children at the Idanha Theatre at 1:30 pm this Saturday in Soda Springs. After the matinee he will tour local businesses and the Soda Springs Merchants Money Tree promotion kicks off with a 1:30 pm drawing at 99 South Main.
