Howard E Thirkill 5 Soda Springs longtime southeastern Idaho resident died Friday of a heart attack while hunting in the George town area. He born May 12 1899 Thatcher son of Frank E and Lula Thatcher Thirkill. He married Evelyn Stucks Feb 18 1928 in Logan LDS Temple. A farmer and rancher he served on Bear Lake County school board and Soda Springs school board for 12 years including 10 as chairman. Surviving widow two daughters Jean Skinner Las Vegas and Mary Lou Campbell Soda Springs six grandchildren three sisters Rachel Gilgen Lula Barnard and Heber Smith. Funeral services were held Monday at 1 pm in Soda Springs LDS Chapel. Burial in Fairview Cemetery.
The Simonson family met at the home of Mr and Mrs Vaughan Simonson in Grace for their traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Attending were Ira Ellis of Soda Springs. Burgess family members from Lar son AFB Washington. Christine Simonson of Grace. George Simonson and son Paul of Aberdeen. Clifford Rich and Kathleen and Greg. Orville Simonson family from Bountiful. Merlin and Lamar Ballard and Annell. Ray Welling and sons Larry Lynn and Dean from Logan.

The Soda Springs P T A will meet at the high school Wednesday evening December 9 at 4 30 pm. Christmas carols directed by Mr Summers will be sung. A business meeting precedes a talk by Dr Herman Hatch who will present films with his lecture.
Leon McAuliffe’s Grace High School engagement drew about 2 000 fans who waited through a 1 1/2 hour delay as storms blocked landings at Soda Springs and Pocatello. Eve Andreason headlined the Friday show, returning from Southern Utah, while McAuliffe praised Grace fans and the local area.

Soda Springs residents donate gifts for the Family of the Vet Who Gave to be sent to the Veterans Hospital in Boise. Gifts must be new and unwrapped, suitable for children or adults, and displayed at the hospital for veterans to select for their families. Wrappings should accompany the gifts for later use. Boxes are placed at City Drug, Alice Joy Shop, Chadwick's, Eastman Drug, Blocks, and Ray Horner Co Variety and will be gathered this weekend for shipment to Boise.
King C Torgesen, son of Mr and Mrs J T Torgesen, has been visiting his parents for a week. He and his wife have five children and now reside in Sacramento California where he serves as District Manager of the Social Security Administration for the Sacramento area.
Leon McAuliffe outlined a busy schedule with appearances in Hawaii, Australia, France, England, Spain, Germany, Ireland, and Newfoundland over the coming months. The ABC Jimmy Dean Show will run a special Leon McAuliffe night in February, carried by Intermountain stations.
Soda Springs High School band of 84 musicians marched in Salt Lake City on Friday November 27 directing Rob ert Summers. The group enjoyed a banquet at Johnny Quong s Hawaiian Village and presented a fossil shark s tooth donated by Monsanto Company to Utah citizens.
