Hunting season opens near Soda Springs as units stay open

The Idaho Fish and Game Department announces season openings near Soda Springs with three units including Unit 75 and portions of Unit 78. Boundary lines defined by Warden Maurice Hardine outline access from Under Point to Jer Point. Jensen reports deer herd management aims to protect herds while allowing hunting in regular and extra areas until December 18.

Swimming Pool Committee Forms to Promote Soda Springs

A local swimming pool committee formed with representatives from service clubs groups and professionals. The group has held meetings for about a year and now a smaller committee will continue its work and pursue inquiries into the pool project.

Caribou County high schools begin the new season with basketball jamboree action at North Gem and Grace. First round games Friday feature Grace vs Marsh Valley at 7:00 p.m. and Soda Springs vs North Gem at 8:90 p.m. Saturday moves to Grace for 7:00 p.m. North Gem vs Marsh Valley and 8:30 p.m. Soda Springs vs North Gem. Wrestling opens with North Gem at Aberdeen tonight and hosting Pocatello High on Monday at 6:30 p.m. in Bancroft. Soda Springs and Grace wrestle at Grace tonight at 7:00 p.m. A wrestling jamboree is Saturday at Soda Springs with American Falls, Aberdeen, Pocatello, and Soda High participating.

Soda Springs Man Dies In House Fire

Mel burn J. Marriott a 59 year old Soda Springs resident and city electrical worker died in an early morning house fire at 171 North Main His body was found in the kitchen near an outside door Fire officials say smoke and a smouldering chair started the blaze Marriott lived alone and was a World War II veteran American Legion member and Presbyterian Church attendee He is survived by three brothers Leonard Ralph and Loren C Marriott with Loren City Calif Marriott born April 27 1907 in Soda Springs

Pirate Pitcher Vern Law Scheduled in Soda Springs

Vern Law Pirates pitcher will autograph baseballs for Soda Springs youths at Idaho First National Bank on Friday December 2 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM. Law, born in Meridian Idaho, rose from Idaho youth to major league star with the Pirates and earned the Cy Young Award in 1960. He and his wife Varita raise five sons on an acreage west of Boise and he has spoken to thousands of students nationwide.

Caribou County Idaho offers 1966 plates expire midnight January 18 1967. Assessor’s office will mail plates to those who request the service. A mail order form appears in the paper. New Grade School Building Making Good Progress

At the Soda Springs District 150 meeting architect Max Call reported cement floors and foundations nearly finished for the new grade school, brick work pending weather. The board heard math department notes with 72 percent of students in math and plans for Algebra II and Advanced Math, plus requests for overhead projectors and transparencies.
