Pebble Creek Fire Burns 400 Acres Near Pebble

A blaze near Pebble Creek burned about 400 acres of mixed BLM and Forest Service land. Firefighters cut the fire by 9 30 am Monday after it was reported Sunday afternoon by three patrolmen. No injuries reported. Wendell Johnson led the fire operation with dispatch by Glenn Van Sickle of Pocatello. The fire, using east facing sage and bitterbrush, was among the worst in the Caribou Forest in years.

New Preschool Development Service Opens in Region VI

The Region VI Department of Environmental and Community Services hires Mrs Kice as a representative for development and preschool instruction. The program serves children from birth to six years, offering group and individual teaching at no charge. Parents may contact Mrs Kice at her Soda Springs home, 517-4253, 8 am to 5 pm weekdays.

The Monsanto women’s softball team captured the league championship with a 7–2 record after defeating A.P.C. in a playoff August 17. Four local teams competed in Soda Springs’ first organized women’s league sponsored by Monsanto Simplot and Washington Construction.

Soda Springs Chamber Hears DECS Hearing on Agricultural Products

The Soda Springs Chamber of Commerce met at Trail Cafe on August 23 1973 with 14 members present. President Joe Kohlberg presided and welcomed coverage from Caribou County Sun editor Vic Lansberry. DECS plans a public hearing on Agricultural Products Corporation expansion while Idaho utilities weigh rate requests from Idaho Motor Tariff Bureau Pacific Inland Tariff Bureau and Intermountain Tariff Bureau. A Corral Creek well study committee will include Phil Merchen. Ellis Williams discussed Hot Lunch and 1973-74 registration. Key Manufacturers of Modena Italy eyed ceramic tile and building materials. Meeting adjourned at 12 45 PM.

Dove Hunting Season Opens Across Idaho This Saturday

The Idaho Fish and Game Department announces the mourning dove hunting season starts Saturday September 1 with a daily limit of 10 doves and 20 in possession after first shot. Shotguns must be plugged to hold no more than three shells. Hunting hours run from about half an hour before sunrise to sunset across listed counties with daily timetable.
