Carey Tires Defeat Sycamore 4 to 3 in Season Finale

Carey Tires edged Sycamore 4 to 3 in a close season finale. Bland struck out 11 and allowed three hits as both teams rallied in the third and fourth innings. Key plays included Brown and Bland with multiple hits and Obelander stealing a base. Sycamore left 12 on base, Carey 5. Umpire Campbell officiated.

Close Call at Thom Bros Garage

Michael Thom of Thom Bros garage had a narrow escape when a touring car rolled off its jack while he worked underneath. His arms were pressed into his abdomen and he lost consciousness before the car could be raised again. He suffered painful bruises and was unable to work for several days but has returned to the job.

Flour prices corrected in Frederick ad

Last week's typographical error led to Crown Jewel flour being listed 10 cents higher than normal. Advertised price now shows 75 cents for an 1/8 barrel sack, reflecting the corrected rate.

Careful Fall Festival Draws Crowds and Displays

Carey Chamber of Commerce hosted a large Fall Festival last week with major livestock and fine arts displays, a big 80 by 320 ft tent, and free entertainment. Saturday drew the largest single admissions rise, and many season tickets were used for the first time. Local businesses and organizations showcased goods from lamps to flour, with prizes for bean count and coal weight, and a horse shoe pitching contest concluding the event.

Banquet Honors Retiring Inights Grand Knight Schira

Following a regular Inights of Columbus meeting a banquet in the parish hall honored retiring Grand Knight Fr. N. Schira who served four years since the lodge’s founding. About 40 Tiffin Knights and 110 Carey members attended as the lodge awarded a gold ring for his service. F J Emerine is elected to succeed Schira.

Enlarging Neu Optical and Jewelry Store Facility

The Neu Optical and Jewelry store room is being enlarged by extending the rear ten feet. The expansion includes fireproofing with concrete and wiring for Mr. Neu's equipment. A private soundproof examining office will be added with new lighting. The jewelry shop will also be enlarged and improved.

Woman Falls Into Cellar From North Vance Street

Mrs. Chester Blue, about 70, of North Vance Street, fell into a cellar Friday night bruising her head severely and remains bedbound. Unclear if dizziness or trap door accident caused the fall. Nearby Mrs. Frederick Moyer suffered a similar incident in the past week.

All Aboard! Local Benefit Play at Catholic Hall

Boy from Columbus Breaks Arm in Horse Fall

John Herbert, guest with his grandmother Mrs. Utta Shoup and mother Mrs. Roy Herbert at Will Heck’s home west of town, fell from a horse and broke his arm. Dr. I. N. Zeis reduced the fracture.

Knights of Columbus to Install Officers This Week

On Tuesday evening October 11 the local Knights of Columbus will install officers led by Grand Knight Frank Emerine and Deputy Grand Knight John Pahl.
