Soldier’s Letter From Korea Hopes For Thanksgiving Return
Cpl William May, serving with the 37th Infantry in Korea, wrote that he had been through heavy fighting but was unharmed. His eight year old Semont would have expired July 19, 1950, and he expressed hope to come home for Thanksgiving as the Korean war began on June 25, 1950. He had been in the first contingent to go to Korea from Tokyo where he had been stationed for two years.

Fractured Leg Sidelined Young Student Near Salem
Mark Davidson thirteen son of Mr and Mrs John E Davidson of south of Carey fractured his right leg just below the knee in a fall at Salem centralized school. He reached down to aid a younger student who had lost balance. The younger boy escaped injury. Mr and Mrs Davidson took him to Findlay hospital where doctors set the bone and applied a cast before bringing him home Friday morning.

Apple Blossoms in September in Newhard Street Yard
Lester Steele of Newhard street found blossoms on his Early Harvest apple tree in September. The tree yields every other year and this was an off year. Apples were gathered by early August after a bonfire near the tree caused leaf drop on the limb bearing blossoms. Steele is unsure if the leaf drop influenced flowering.
