Clifford Thompson Missing At Sea

Clifford Thompson, Seaman First Class, is reported missing at sea while serving aboard the U S S Warrington after the destroyer was sunk off the Atlantic coast during a hurricane. He joined in October 1942 and served 20 months in the South Pacific, taking part in battles at the Hismarck Sea Bougainville and Admiralty Islands. His father, Homer Thompson, resides west of Carey.

Mary Martha Class Elects New Officers

The Mary Martha class of Christ Watersn Sunday school elected new officers for the coming year. President Mrs. Perry MacDaniel, vice president Mrs. D. J. Fraziey, secretary Miss Marguerite Jacobs, treasurer Mrs. George Snyder. Program committee appointees include Mrs. Paul Williams, Mrs Edward Adams, and Mrs. Forest Myers.

Frozen food locker plant possibility eyed in Carey

C. L. Terrel of De Graff visited Carey to study a frozen food locker plant project. He already has four such plants under construction in Ohio and plans to return to discuss potential patronage for a Carey plant.

Sixteen Wyandot selectees to face pre-induction exam

Sixteen men designated by the Wyandot county draft board will travel to Columbus on Saturday for pre-induction physical examinations. Squirrel season brings Dr Gravett to Carey for ninth straight year

Dr H Gravett and his daughter in law Mrs W S Gravett of Piqua visited Carey last Thursday staying with Mrs Nelle Myers on West street. Dr Gravett remained in Carey for the squirrel season marking his ninth consecutive year hunting in the area.

Crawford boy lands 19 ½ pound carp in Tymochtee Creek

Fourteen year old Gene Needles son of Mr and Mrs Elza Needles of Crawford caught a 19 ½ pound carp on a dock and line in Tymochtee Creek Friday evening. He waded out to land the fish and brought it to shore for dressing and freezing at the Vanlue locker with his parents.

Carey Girl Disappears From School Grounds

Dorothy Sherman a 14 year old girl from E Brown avenue vanished from Col Crawford school grounds last Thursday morning after telling a teacher she would go to Findlay with a brother. She wore a blue flowered dress, blue jacket, black oxfords, has reddish brown hair and blue eyes. She had previously spoken of going to Toledo Marion or Friday to obtain work and claimed to have hitchhiked to Detroit upon return.

Stores to Close on Victory Day

The village of Carey will close all business houses during the worship period on Victory Day. All places selling intoxicating liquor including 3.2 beer must close for 24 hours after the war in Europe is declared ended. By order of the village council.

Navy Petty Officer Moves From Africa To France

Ed and Mrs. Michaels report their son Jack, a petty officer third class, has been transferred from North Africa to southern France. As a mail specialist he sorted 17 000 bags of mail during a 4 1/2 day period in Africa. It seems a letter from home is needed.

A civil service examination for the postmaster position in Carey is scheduled Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at the municipal building. Two applicants will take the exam after the filing deadline of September 12.

Funeral mass for Sgt Ralph I Derr killed in France

Sgt Ralph I Derr 27 son of Mr and Mrs Herman J Derr of 3 miles southwest of Carey was killed in action in France August 17. A memorial Mass was held at Our Lady of Consolation Church with Rev Ambrose Finnegan celebrating. Military honors were provided by Earl Green Post 44. Derr belonged to the 610th Tank Destroyer Battalion. His brother Cpl Joseph Derr serves on the East coast. Relatives have not been informed of the circumstances. war department will notify when authentic details are available.
