The second anniversary of Rev. Lewis P. Speaker’s pastorate at First English Lutheran is marked with 900 active members after 200 joined in two years. Receipts total $34,000 for current expenses and benevolences. The church is debt free and plans a parish hall and educational building. First Church will host the Ohio Synod meeting in late October.
The County Council of Religious Education committee met at the Upper Sandusky Methodist church to discuss plans for the county Sunday school convention likely to be held there. The date may be October 28 to November 4. Delegates for the Young People's Conference should be appointed now. the conference occurs in Mansfield October 19 to 21.
Mrs George Ash of Carey was elected president of the Delaware district of the Woman s Missionary Society of the Methodist church at the annual meeting. Mrs George Hale of Upper Sandusky was elected vice president with other officers including Mrs W Stauffer Forest recording secretary Mrs D M Barley Delaware corresponding secretary and Mrs W M Coller Prospect treasurer.
The indoor baseball league closed last week after final games drew crowds of over 200 spectators. Standings reflect the season’s results and the league’s end, with teams competing for top honors in an ongoing indoor baseball format.
Russell Stout, son of Mr and Mrs Lawrence Stout of south of town, finished his course in radio and navigation at San Diego California and was assigned as radio operator on the U S S California which sailed two weeks ago for South America.

City council met in regular session with Mayor Byers in chair. Bills approved include bond redemptions, salaries, and utilities. Wenner and R Moser bid $1016.54 for South Lake street sewer. their bid accepted after review. Meeting adjourned to Monday October 8 at 7 oclock.
On October 7 a home coming and Sunday School Rally will be held at the Methodist church. Dr J E Hartzler president of Witmarsum Seminary Bluffton will preach at 10 30 in the morning and 2 00 in the afternoon. A special offering will be taken to pay the church debt.

Carey High treks to Toledo for the fifth straight season opener against Waite High. The squad has worked two weeks on new plays and, with all players in shape, aims to hold Waite to the lowest score in five years. A large chartered bus from Tiffin will carry the team Saturday.
Monday morning chapel opened with singing of Onward Christian Soldiers. Invocation led by Mr. Huffman. Donald Kurtz, graduate of the class of 1927, presented musical selections. Chapels closed with the high school song to help freshmen learn the tune.
Last Wednesday the student body elected class officers for the year. Senior officers are President Howard Diller, VP Myrtle Crumrine, Secretary and Treasurer Bernice Ruehle. The lyceum course this year will not cost under 600 dollars and patrons must support it. Juniors and seniors will soon sell tickets and teams will canvass streets and areas to raise funds.
Last Tuesday Miss Warren's Physical Geography class visited a Catholic church. The trip tied to their marble study, featuring the church's vast interior marble decorations. Marble samples the class received were imported from Italy.
An open letter from Mr. Wainwright of the music department proposes a program to test musical talent in Carey children aged five to fourteen. The plan offers weekly one hour lessons for 100 dollars per month with two music books and a cardboard keyboard as materials, and no obligation to buy a piano. Mrs W M Gobrecht spent Sunday in Findlay with Amos Wingate, then visited Floyd Roberts and L D. DeHaven families.
Carey Whippets, the recently organized city team coached by Harry Bowman with Paul Goff as manager, hold practices on Tue Thu and Fri and have October games listed against Tiffin Merchants Findlay Aviators Toledo Radios and Perrysburg A C. Additional matchups with Tiffin Coniglis Gibsonburg Marion Bucyrus Upper Sandusky and Delphos are hoped.
YMCA secretary served as principal speaker at the Kiwanis luncheon at the Galt House. His talk, Institutions and Movements, linked a physical organization to its spirit and purpose. Next week a chalk talk on Thrift is planned as the program feature.
The Ridge school house west of town, abandoned for two years, is being converted into a barbecue and filling station by B. C. Hart of Findlay. Hart remade the building after acquiring the property from William Laudenslager and C. D. Sheridan and previously operated a barbecue on the Dixie Highway.
Clifford Stone age fourteen son of Mr and Mrs C S Stone of three miles north of town lies in Mt Carmel Hospital Columbus awaiting his twenty fifth operation. Seven years ago lockjaw followed a nail injury and since then pus has formed at his hip joints requiring drainage. His father C S Stone CB Stone and Eli Smith visited him at the hospital Sunday.
Mrs Joseph Tiecll reported a grass fire in a pasture near the barn on the Carey Fostoria road about 4 00 PM Monday. About a hundred neighbors with shovels helped extinguish it, saving the farm buildings.
Kernie Barnett aged 27 remains hospitalized at Grant Hospital Columbus after a three week injury from attempting to hop a working Valley freight. His foot was severely cut when he slipped under the moving train.
J A McDaniel proprietor of McDaniel Motor Sales Co purchased sweaters for the Whip pets, the city's new football team.
Joseph Bradman has sold his 86 acre farm three miles south of town to William Riester. The deal was arranged through the Feasel agency.
