Mr and Mrs Orville Ratliff Freder ick Sr announce their son has been promoted to corporal. He has served in Vietnam since February with the 1st Infantry Division.
Local officials will join in Toledo September 24 25 and 26 for the 18th annual Ohio Municipal Conference to discuss labor relations crime control annexation and municipal income tax. Sessions include a luncheon with Austin Kiplinger and a problem clinic for village officials. The Ohio Municipal League sponsors the event at the Commodore Perry Motor Inn.
Corporal Orville H. Ratliff US51885517 from HHC 2/2 Mech Recon Ast Inf Div sent home word from Taipai Taiwan. He phoned family twice and asked to tell his hometown and friends hello at APO San Francisco California 96345.
Carey Kiwanis Club met at noon Monday at the Coach Lantern Inn. Rev. Paul Winemiller Pastor of Christ Lutheran Church showed his film The New Japan about Japan's religions industry and farmability. President Jerry Gier announced next week’s 6:30 p.m. ladies night meeting for installing new officers by the Lt. Governor.
The full year Winter Head Start program begins September 22 under the Hancock Hardin Wyandot and Putnam Community Action Commission. Formerly a summer program the Head Start expansion includes eleven centers serving four counties with locations in Findlay Carey Continental Ada Forest and Upper Sandusky.
The Carey Shuffleboard club elected officers for the 1969 70 season led by Lawrence Orians as president and Clarence Hag ley as vice president. Directors include Harold Shiley Edwin King Denver Donelson Carla Kimmell and Irma Smith. State reps are Denver Donelson and William Crowe with alternates Dorcas Donelson and Hugh Rogers. Refreshments followed with games of euchre and pinochle.
A 1959 Ford driven by Ronald Brooks of Vanlué was demolished after hitting a parked 1963 Studebaker on W Findlay Street at 12:05 a.m. September 21. The Studebaker was driven by Edward House of Carey. Brooks said he was distracted. no citation issued. A separate crash at 10:27 p.m. September 20 at Batterson and Findlay Streets involved Melinda Myers in a 1966 Chevy colliding with a 1968 Chevy driven by Robert.
Community advocates urging a 0.50 mill library levy claim rising costs threaten book budgets and services at the Dorcas Carey Public Library. They note increased expenses for books, supplies, utilities and staff and emphasize historic support from the Carnegie Foundation and the Carey family.
Local residents attended visits and devotions at Our Lady of Consolation Shrine Church and Saint Anthony Fraternity events. Alice Caulfield and Christina Kauffman were invested into the Third Order of Saint Francis. A silent auction, door prize, and social hour followed. The Carey Catholic Ladies of Columbia marked 50 years with church services at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation and a Sunday dinner at Pilgrim House in Carey. The club organized in 1919 in Carey, with initial officers and trustees listed, and about 75 guests attended the anniversary program led by Rev. Hubert Kobunski and dignitaries including Frances Gerding, supreme president, who spoke on the progress of the order.
