The St Paul Evangelical church of west of town moved from the Caray circuit to Grace Evangelical charge in Findlay, transferring parish alignment to the Findlay group.
The Jennie Larmonth Missionary Society of the Lutheran church will meet with Mrs. H. B. A. Wyatt on Tuesday evening September 23. Prayer and other activities are urged for those able to attend.
A busy week marks the opening of the new Methodist church with dedication services starting Sunday. Ohio Northern University president Dr A B Smith will preach at 10 AM and 2:30 PM with Dr C C Peale also preaching. Bishop Henderson to preach and formally dedicate on Sunday September 28 as the community is invited to all events.
A large attendance heard two visitors from Findlay and Hamilton speak briefly. The club voted to help a local youth pursue business education at Tiffin Business College and hopes to fund future similar efforts. Ohio District Convention in Canton next week was noted with possible attendance. A gift for the retiring district governor was planned with prize drawn by Jacob Sticf.
Miss Lydia Heck left for Oxford to study at Western College. Martha Patterson travels to Ypsilanti to train as a physical culture teacher at the state normal school. Voyle Harshares enters Ohio Wesleyan University Delaware with his mother relocating there. Miss Selma Kessler departs for Columbus to begin her senior year at Ohio State English teaching. Emory Yohe returns to Hamma Divinity School Springfield for year two. Virgil Yohe heads to Springfield for Hamma School. Miss Gertrude Yohe goes to Marion to attend Marion Junior College Lutheran girls college. Earl Rothgeb leaves for Lamar Iowa college. Milton Trubey Clair Lytle William Ogg Earl LeMott resume studies at Wittenberg College Springfield.
William Robison 91 died after a porch fall. Attended by Mr and Mrs Chas Robison and family, Mrs S R Esterley, Mr and Mrs W E Walter and family, Mr and Mrs Willie Walter, Mr and Mrs Dewey Ogg, and other relatives. The service took place Monday at his Bucyrus home.
Mr and Mrs Scott Tong hosted a dinner for George Hinderleider, superintendent at the rubber plant, both veterans of the Philippine Insurrection who served on the island at the same time and only recently met after many years.
Mrs Hugh Kurtz advertises beauty services at 118 West North Street Carey. The notice mentions shampoo, scalp treatments, marcel and water waves, eyebrow care, facial treatments, and massaging. A benefit to be held at the high school auditorium Friday evening September 26 with picnic and social event.
Mack Starr died by suicide near a wooded area after a day raising cows. His funeral was held at the Evangelical church with Rev A G Tozer officiating, burial in Spring Grove cemetery, and pallbearers named from the Odd Fellows group. He was born November 12, 1886, survived by wife Clara Stahl, daughter Opal, two sisters, a brother, and his mother Mrs F M Starr. He had recently moved from the locality to Washington DC and Marshall before returning body to the area.
The handsome new Bulletin board at the new Methodist church was presented by H B Keller. It is attractive and useful and will be appreciated by church members and friends. The name plate is large enough to be read by passersby.
A compilation of social notices from Marion area residents including visits by Mr and Mrs Andrew Kimmel and guests of Mrs G H Whaley. Plans feature travels to Cleveland Erie Toledo Columbus and Florida, plus a Pioneer Picnic benefit and a pipe organ activity in Upper Sandusky.
Miss Katherine Louise Lathouse and Samuel Reid Beitler were married at the bride’s home in Columbus in a double ring ceremony. The bride is an office secretary at the Columbus Y W C A and the groom is a mechanical engineering instructor at Ohio State University, a 1920 OSU graduate. They plan a motor trip to Northern Michigan and Chicago before settling at 2653 North Fourth Street.
Charles Morris of Toledo sparked Sunday night excitement when he and his sister Goldie Hart and a laborer bought bootleg whiskey from a quarry house. Ernest Dunn of Carey, tied to the supply, pleaded guilty in Mayor Blue's court and was fined 2000 dollars plus costs with half the fine to the city treasury.
A son was born Sunday to Mr and Mrs Ervin Tong near town. A 9% pound boy arrived Tuesday night for Mr and Mrs Ed Bunkies. A 10-pound daughter was born Tuesday to Mr and Mrs Paul Culmes. A son and daughter twins came Wednesday to Mr and Mrs James Farrell of Columbus, whose Mrs Farrell was formerly Nettie Hayman of Carey. A nine and a half pound son arrived Sunday morning for Mr and Mrs Virgil Derr at the home of Mrs Derr's parents on Sycamore Street.
A father filed a warrant Sunday for three boys accused of contributing to the delinquency of a minor after they took his 15 year old daughter and a 13 year old neighbor on an all night automobile ride. The matter was settled out of court after the boys paid costs and received a talk from Mayor Blue. They promised to avoid the girls and mind themselves.
Miss Elsie Howard and Miss Carolyn Newhard led a party on a Sunday cruise on Lake Erie visiting Cedar Point Port in Bay Kellys Island Catawba Island Lakeside Bay Point and Sandusky scaling a scenic itinerary aboard a charter vessel.
Dr W E Hughes and Miss Roma Dell Ritz of Nevada wed Monday in Upper Sandusky conducted by Rev J W BGyrers at his home. The couple left Tuesday on a motor trip to Bellflower California.
The K of O will hold an important meeting Thursday evening September 25. Every member should be present at 4 PM.
The sixth United Brethren Sambas school will hold a bake sale at the Rest Room on Saturday September 27. The Catholic Ladies of Columbia and their families will picnic at Carey Water Works Park on Sunday September 21. A display advertises coats at The Tl. B Kurta Sons. The Eastern Star will meet in regular session Friday evening with Mr and Mrs Brooks Fletcher hosting.
Members of the Martin Cooperative Threshing Ring held a first banquet at the Elm Hill picnic grounds on Saturday. Ladies served with baskets, coffee and ice cream while men and children enjoyed horseshoe pitching boating and baseball. A substitute dinner gang announced dinner and a large crowd shared a long table of vittles. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Dean Wright and children Sylvia Ruth Jack and Dickey Mr. and Mrs. Bernard O'Brien and son Kenneth Mr. Henry Lortz and sons Walter Delmer and Fordyce Mr and Mrs. Albert Roszman and children Donald and Ruth Mrs. Ida Cramer Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Mrs. Frank Y Knowlton died Tuesday at 3:00 a.m. after a seven hour illness from a cerebral hemorrhage. She passed at her home west of Adrian and funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Rev Yant officiating. Burial is in McCutchenville. Born Jane Johnson at Adrian November 10 1859 she married J F Y Knowlton 37 years ago and leaves Austin Knowlton of Adrian. Surviving siblings are George Johnson Jehalis Wash Jasper Johnson Paulding H F E Johnson Grand Rauns Mich and Mrs Chadwell Clahaugh Mt Blanchard. She was a longtime Methodist Church member.
Monday morning about 12 15 o clock the National Lime and Stone Co barn on the Wagner farm burned in a blaze that could not be stopped by the local fire brigade Three horses five mules 300 bushels of oats and about 12 tons of hay were destroyed The origin is unknown and reports of a laborer being burned are denied.
Henry Mullholand, a native son and former Presbyterian minister of 25 years in St Louis, spent Sunday to Tuesday with relatives in Carey on his way from a summer home in New York City to his Florida residence. He was hosted by his half sister Mrs Scott Long and cousin Miles Mullholand.
Mr and Mrs Walter Caskey and their children were in a Wednesday noon car accident at Ritchey corner Crawford. They received cuts and bruises but were not seriously hurt. They were taken to Cares for medical aid by Dr Van Buren after Sharon Ray Tracy helped them.
A damp car fell on William Carr’s right hand during a Monday forenoon shift at a stone quarry. The crushing caused the third finger to be amputated at the second joint. Carr was a temporary worker, his father replacing his animal duties by bringing him to the quarry.
The Septober omering of the Amperian Legion Nanihierrs announces the formation of a central committee. Members Jo Humbert Vis Ss R&R Bame Me BooR Girbven and Vass Mathie Gibson are named to compose this committee.
