Carey Girl Scouts Demonstrate At Ohio State Fair

Senior Troop 11 of Carey displayed buddy burner and belt making demos at the Ohio State Fair on Sunday August 25 hosting Youth Building activities. Leaders cite school duties and leadership change as reasons for disbanding while Wyandot County scouts from Upper Sandusky Troop 10 also showcased lashing demonstrations marking their first state fair representation.

Seminary Rector Named Hospital Chaplain

The Very Rev Angelus La Fleur is named hospital chaplain at Waupun Memorial Hospital in Wisconsin. He succeeds The Very Rev Benedict Rubeck who served as seminary rector since 1951 and will continue as rector emeritus. La Fleur has a Ph.D in biology from Fordham and formerly taught at Mount Saint Francis and Bellarmine College.

Wyandot County Fair Promises Five Busy Days of Events

Next week Wyandot county hosts a six day fair at Upper Sandusky with a major farm machinery exhibition. Governor ONeill visits Wednesday afternoon. harness racing dominates midweek programs with a $5000 stakes total across three days. Evening shows include wrestling, auto daredevils, rodeo, and a Grand Ole Opry style finale featuring Cousin Minnie Pearl.

Carey 4-H Boys Tour Industrial Sites and Cheese Plant

Carey 4 H Club members toured Cadiz Harrison county and Scio Ohio visiting the Mountaineer coal shovel plant and a large coal preparation plant. They learned about coal mining recovery land reclamation and the Scio Ohio Pottery process. The trip ended with a return through Holmes county famed for cheese making.

August Metro Receipts Show Increase Over Last Year

Meter receipts for August total $690.50, up $15 from $675.50 in August 1956. Clerk Auditor Zenith McLarkey reports eight months of 1957 receipts at $4,378, compared with $4,457.50 for the same period in 1956.

Perry Lanning Wins Toledo District Junior Golf Crown

Perry Lanning, 19, son of Mr and Mrs Wayne Lanning of Findlay, formerly Carey, won the Toledo District Junior golf title at Chippewa Country Club Toledo by defeating Karl Huls of Toledo 10 up. Lanning carded 37 36 73 with 13 pars and two birdies, led by three up after nine, and sealed victory with the last three holes. He and his family were guests of honor at his grandparents home that evening.

Style Show and Card Party Funds School Reading Purchases

Extracurricular reading books will be bought for public schools and Our Lady of Consolation School using proceeds from a benefit style show and card party on Sept 24 at the parish school. Families Move In To Carey Area Homes

Families relocate within the Carey area as Mr and Mrs Jack Dotson and son Joey move to a house trailer on the Beagle farm two miles south of Carey. Mr and Mrs Carl Sizemore and daughter Debbie shift from their east Carey trailer to a West Street house formerly owned by Mrs Grover Bakies and vacated by the Dotsens.

PTA Membership Drive and Meeting Schedule Noted

The Ohio PTA and National PTA magazines are urged for subscription with Mrs Robert Creeger as chair. The first PTA meeting is set for Monday Sept 23 at the high school, with Mrs Gerald Rickle coordinating to sign up parents. Executive meeting last week caused confusion over monthly meetings, which occur on the fourth Mondays except December when the meeting shifts to December 16.

Schwemley Family Reunion After Germany Return

George Schwemley completes 18 months in Germany with the U S Army sailing from Bremerhaven August 12 aboard the USNS Butner and arriving in New York August 20. He was discharged August 27 at Fort Sheridan Illinois after a Mannheim promotion to Specialist Third Class. His parents met him at Fort Sheridan and they spent the weekend in Chicago attending the Chicago Music Festival at Soldiers Field where 62 000 people attended and 8 000 performed.

Missouri Trip Ends For Bohlen and Yeater Families

Mrs Fred Bohlen of Glenn Avenue and Mrs Harry Yeater with twins Jim and Susie of Wyandot Street returned Sunday from a week in Missouri visiting Mr and Mrs Elmer Bohlen and children Mary Chuckie and Carol in St Charles. They found St Charles area dry and hot with a high of 97. They stayed early week at the Bohlen shunting club near New Melle, a hilly wooded area where deer and squirrels are common. Jim and Susie, on their first train ride, were carried aboard under protest but later enjoyed the trip, though all preferred returning home to Carey.

Pastor Dr Benton Peery Attends World Council Conference

Dr Benton Peery of Christ Lutheran Church will join a two day observer stint at the World Council of Churches North American Study Conference in Oberlin Ohio. About forty member denominations from the U S and Canada participate with eight other denominations observing the theme The Nature of the Unity We Seek. Conference runs September 3 to 10 with Dr Edgar M Carlson Lutheran president of Gustavus Adolphus College chairing the key Doctrinal Consensus and Conflict section.

Miss Sue Wise of rural Fremont Ohio State University student won the $50 grand prize in the Senior Division Northwest Ohio District Make It Yourself With Wool Contest. Cars Collide in Fog Near Carey Injuring Five

Five people were injured when two cars collided on Route 23 in heavy fog near Evans Garage. Phyllis G Jarral, 26, and Arlie Jarral, 51, both of Detroit, suffered serious injuries and were treated at Fostoria City Hospital. others were treated and released at Wyandot Memorial Hospital. A second mishap near Wenner's bridge left Frances Yurman treated at Wyandot Memorial Hospital for shock and bruises.
