Wednesday morning enrollment at public schools showed 700 pupils in total with 341 in the lower six grades and 359 in the upper six. An ordinance with a first reading limits the Ohio gas company charges for natural gas in Carey for four years if adopted. It shows a small rate rise with tiered charges: 20c per 100 cu ft for the first 500, 6c per 100 for the next 4,500, 5c per 100 for over 10,000, plus a separate 20c per 160 cu ft for the first 600, 7c per 100 for the next 1,500, 6c per 100 for the next 3,000, 5.14c per 100 for the next 5,000, and 5c per 100 for excess over 10,000.
At a prize drawing held Saturday evening at Theis Furniture Exchange Mrs. Carl Fruth won a $434 refund cash for a store purchase. A state opinion by Attorney General Thomas J. Herbert holds Seneca County must pay for care and treatment of dependent and crippled children committed by the juvenile judge to the Department of Public Welfare. The county cannot avoid liability by insufficient appropriations, and judges may commit more children than limited by funds. Actual payments require adequate county funding.

A Hawthorne bicycle owned by Paul Mangett of N Patterson Street was stolen from a front porch on Friday. Police note a similar theft last summer, but the bike was recovered. Any information leading to recovery would be appreciated.
No 1941 driver's or chauffeur licenses sold until September. License required by October 1 and applicants should not wait. Bring old license. chauffeur licenses must include a two inch square photograph. Deputy Registrar W Z Campbell signs the notice.

A fall wedding was held Sunday at 3 pm as Helen Stone daughter of Mr and Mrs Sam Stone and Wayne Stevens son of Mrs W B Stevens of Sand Springs Oklahoma joined in marriage at the bride’s parents home. Rev Glenn Fruth officiated the double ring ceremony with Rebecca Marshall as maid of honor and Richard Gray as best man. The couple plans a East tour including the World’s Wall and Niagara Falls and will reside in Sand Springs where Stevens works in the post office.
R. H. Sturgeon, vocational agriculture teacher at Carey, won six first prizes on Barred Plymouth Rocks and placed second best on display at the Ohio State Fair in Columbus. Eugene Liming, a recent Carey High School graduate, also won eighth on Rhode Island Reds and seventh on Barred Rocks at the fair.
A 16 year old named Shoudt uncovered a cache of silver dollars dated 1801 to 1879 while digging fence post holes on the Shoudt family property in Loudonville. The yard has been owned by the family for 37 years and the teen continues to search the entire backyard.
The Wesleyan Guild of the Methodist Sunday school will meet next Monday evening at Mrs Wesley Wonder's home north of Carey for a Wiener roast. Other members of the entertaining committee are Mrs Irene Bowers, Mrs Carl Krout, and Mrs J A Schira.

The bronze bell from the old Carey town hall, weighing 1,067 pounds and cast by Ban duzen & Tift Co. in Cincinnati, is advertised for sale by Mayor B. M. Hachar. It was bought by the village council on April 24, 1893 from Truman Woodworth & Son for 3302 73, with erecting costs and fittings totaling.
The Swihart family reunion was held Sunday at the home of Mrs. Alice Swihart and Mrs. Ruby Criger on East North Street. Officers chosen included Amos Swihart as president and Mrs. Criger as secretary, with Mrs. Obed Crow chairing the flower committee. The 1941 reunion is planned for Vanlue at Mr. and Mrs. Milton Hendricks. Attendees included families from Vanlue Carey Toledo Defiance North Baltimore and nearby towns.

Over $100000 will be spent to eliminate the New York Central grade crossing in Richland township. An underpass is planned at the site following several fatal auto accidents in the area.
