Senior pupils staged a unique chapel with silhouettes of students and teachers representing pages of the upcoming 1942 annual. Virginia Odoneo delivered a Thanksgiving monologue. Thanksgiving recess followed tests in history spelling English arithmetic geography and science with top scorers named.
Raymond Bowers won first prize Harold Coffman took second and Carol Nye placed third. Carol Nye celebrated her birthday anniversary last Wednesday by treating us to popcorn balls and lollipops. Several students helped create large posters illustrating our geography unit The Desert.
The 3rd grade completed a week with 100 per cent attendance. The annual bazaar and chicken supper by Christ Lutheran Church Ladies Aid will be in the parish house Thursday December 4 starting at 5 p.m. A noon cafeteria lunch, early shopping from 10 a.m., and booths with aprons, fancy work, and candy will be available. Ardella Coppler leads the candy booth for the Luther League.
Members gather for a 6 30 prompt family potluck with a varied program. Arrangements are by the Woman's Society of Christian Service Fellowship committee Mrs Carl Krout Mrs Clyde Jenkins and Miss Jennie Steen. C G Laird will give the welcome and Mrs Ralph Vogel will respond for new members.
A community rabbit and pheasant supper was served Tuesday evening at Beech Grove church to honor fathers and sons. Rev. J. L. Burton of Wharton, the pastor, gave an engaging talk as residents from the area attended.

Secretary Knox announces a two ocean Navy enlistment drive prompting questions on eligibility without a high school education. Commander Bland says applicants with average intelligence and passable exams can enlist, with 50 percent on a 100-question test meeting educational standards.
Pvt John Starkey, stationed at Camp Wolters Texas and recent cooks school graduate, sent his mother the Thanksgiving menu served to soldiers last Thursday. The spread included turkey dressing sweet potatoes mashed potatoes gravy creamed peas cranberries rolls celery tomato lettuce salad ice cream cake iced tea candy nuts apples oranges bananas and cigarettes.
The Women’s Missionary Society and the Jenny Larmonth Missionary Society of Christ Lutheran Church hold their annual thank offering service next Sunday at worship hour. Pastor Rev. M Paul Paetznick will speak on “The Basis of Missions.”

Christmas club checks totaling 7500 dollars will be mailed Wednesday December 3 by the Peoples Bank Co. The sum represents savings deposited in Christmas club accounts over the past year. The new Christmas club for 1942 will open Saturday December 6.

Four members of the Carey Hi Y club Wayne Zahn Giles Krupp Rex Huston and Gail Furbell plan to attend the annual Ohio Hi Y conference in Springfield November 28 29 and 30. Principal J B Mulholland will accompany them. The theme is My Place in This Changing World with headliners Dr W Hamilton Aulinbach Germantown Pa Dr John Ruskin Howe Otterbein College Julien Bryan Abel J Greegg and George Campbell.
The Moose Lodge announces weekly gatherings every Thursday at 8:00 PM with a Moose and Lady Moose party following the lodge meeting. Members are urged to attend and consider bringing guests this Thursday.

Charles Bland Jr aged 18 died at Findlay hospital after a single vehicle crash on Route 15 six miles west of Carey. He was driving a 1936 Ford V-8 with Robert McKinnon as passenger when lights from a truck blinded him wrecking the car. McKinnon escape minor injuries. Funeral plans incomplete. body at Bristoll funeral home.
The Carey Community Chest drive exceeded prior years’ goals as citizens dug deeper to meet expanding needs. Officers, committee members, and solicitors helped ensure success and the chairman thanks the entire citizenry for their collective effort and teamwork.
On Tuesday at 7:30 PM the Women’s Missionary society and the Jennie Larmonth Missionary society of Christ Lutheran church will host a joint meeting at Mrs. M. Paul Paetznick’s home to celebrate the India Centennial Festival with members of the United Lutheran Church in America. The session titled What of the Next Century will be led by Mrs. Ross Johnson with devotionals by Mrs. J. Ewing. Hostesses include Mrs. Clarence J. Hagley, Mrs. I. Culler and Mrs. F. A. Galbroner.

Officers were re elected George Snyder as president Eugene Lab as vice president and George Newhard as secretary Clarence J Hagley elected treasurer succeeding Nelson McLarkey. William Stobbs athletic coach at Wittenberg College Springfield gave a talk and Robert Blose, local high school coach, spoke.
Carey council No 1925 met Tuesday evening and decided to hold the annual Christmas party for children on Monday evening December 22. James Haefling of Tiffin outlined the K. of C. insurance program and policies sold by the order.

Harry Taft of Carey holds a copy of an October 11 1895 agreement between the New England Home for Little Wanderers Boston and H Z Bland a Carey resident. Bland promised care schooling church attendance and other duties for Harry and others brought by Rev W A Cooper superintendent. The document is yellowed with age and valued by Taft.

D. D. Hosterman of Sycamore is recovering from a severely sprained ankle suffered Monday of last week while hunting on the C. C. Corfman farm south of Tiffin. He slipped on uneven ground.

Freshman at Ohio Northern University Ada Miss Eleanor McChesney daughter of Mr and Mrs S W McChesney spends this week with her parents She was valedictorian of Carey High School class of 1941 and makes fine records at Ada She scored 100 per cent in English and harmony on six week tests leads her botany class plays second violin in the university orchestra studies singing with Haydn Owens and will take part in Handel Messiah at Lehr Auditorium on Sunday December 14.
Miss Mattie Myers, secretary of Good Literature at the Methodist church, collects renewals and new subscriptions for The Christian Advocate. Dr Roy L Smith of Chicago edits the weekly magazine. On January 1 it enters its second year, having reached 32 Carey families last year. The goal is half a million subscribers, with single subscriptions at 2 dollars and 150 for church clubs of 15 or more.
Rev Donald W. Cryer preached at the Fosteria Methodist church for the Hospital Festival of Churches with the theme The Reason for Living. He will speak next Sunday evening at John Stewart Methodist Church Upper Sandusky on the theme Only a Layman.
John Poston, a farm hand for Kenneth O'Brien at Elm Hills, shot a red fox in Salem township. Onlookers described the animal as unusually large for its species.
