Carey Community Chest Drive Opens With $602 Collected

The Carey community drive started November 1 aiming for $3,000. Tuesday reports show $602 raised, leaving $2,398 to go. Beneficiaries include Carey School Band United Services Organizations Boys and Girls Activities Wyandot County Health and Tuberculosis Association and the Carey Welfare Board.

Moro krist Tells Of War Trophy From Mindanao Island

Bruce Luzader displays a Moro krist with a 22 inch hand hammered blade, silver and copper inlayed handle ending in ivory. The carved wooden scabbard features silver bands and resin glue. Mindanao island warriors haunted nearby villages during World War II battles in May 1945. Luzader bought the piece after trading a few cans of K rations for it and a small radio from a Filipino resident. He was wounded on Mindanao about ten days after landing in May 1945.

Carey Kiwanis Club Meets Hosts Guest Speaker

The Carey Kiwanis club met at Trubey's restaurant with President Gail Newell presenting a military service plaque to Dr. R. J. Lemons. G. A. Hartman spoke on Kiwanis magazine articles including slum clearance and DDT usage. Earl Cline of Columbus attended. next week the club visits the Carey Farmers' Community club on Thursday evening, November 14.

Buckingham and Odone Buy Interest in Dick and Dan's

Louis Buckingham buys Dick Hayman’s stake in the sandwich shop on S Vance Street next to Ralph Lanker’s Electric Shop. Daniel Odone retains his share and the shop remains Dick and Dan's. Both veterans served in the Pacific during World War II.

Ohio Wesleyan enrollment at record 2100 students

Barbara Johnson Mary Newhard and Martha Ann Spensler of Carey enrolled for the fall semester at Ohio Wesleyan University. Enrollment this year is a record 2100 students with more men than women on campus for the first time in many years. Homecoming events for the weekend of November 2 have been grand features of campus life.

Kiwanis club sponsors the Wyandot county Blue Cross community enrollment opening Thursday November 8. A Blue Cross representative will be at the municipal building to explain the plan and collect membership cards. Evangelical School opens with 93 students at Memorial Church

The School of Religious Education at Memorial Evangelical Church began on Tuesday with 93 attendees from grades 1 to 6 on released time from public schools. Auxiliary to Entertain on Armistice Day

The American Legion Auxiliary will observe Armistice Day on Monday November 11 at 6 30 pm in the Parl Green post rooms. Capt Harold Krout Re enlists in Army Air Force

Keller Cassel Elected Tuesday After Strong Carey Returns

Carey voters backed Republican gains with Keller defeating Drecsler 4228 to 2485 for county commissioner and Cassel beating Hunter 4174 to 2699. Winter won long term commissioner, while local levies failed or passed: memorial park levy failed 683 to 361 against, school levy passed 967 to 360. Local precinct tallies show party and candidate preferences across Crawford and Carey townships.
