The Rev Anna Green paid $10.90 to the city for breaking quarantine after police court action last week. The board of health had arrested her for disobeying quarantine orders and she was given time to pay costs. the editor urges full penalties and stricter obedience to health orders.
Last Thursday evening a group of young people gathered at Frank Gibbs home for a Hallowe en party. Attendees included Mary Gibbs Hattie Gibbs Ethel Gibbs Madgie Chesebro Zealth Montague Grace VanHeyde Lucy Bund Zella Shiremano Gail Robinson Cora Snyder Lucretia Heck Mary Brayton and others with Robert Hilty Blazo Croker Verne Alspach Earl Kenton Vern Chesebro Roy Montague Carl Herbert Ora Hart Ralph Dow Bill Karns Gordon Hickle and Walter Kenney. A supper of oysters and pickles was served at 930 and the evening featured games and repartee despite bad weather.
A reader from Rochester writes Granville Hunter in Carey Ohio praising Black Langshan trio received on October 24, 1901. He notes the Langshan cockerel as the best he has seen in the east and expresses gratitude for gentlemanly treatment and willingness to order more birds and eggs.
William J Mitchell died suddenly Monday noon after falling ill the night before. Born March 29 1841 in Beaver County Pennsylvania he served in the Civil War with the 76th Pennsylvania Keystone Zouaves and was wounded at Fort Wagner. He moved to Ohio six years ago and Carey five years ago. survived by wife Maggie Mallon and eight children, four at home. Two sons reside in Philadelphia and a daughter in New Castle Pennsylvania. New Castle, Philadelphia, Carey, and Fort Wagner are named places and events noted.
We express heartfelt thanks to those who showed sympathy and help during the sickness and death of our two children. The flowers were beautiful and gratefully appreciated. Special thanks to Mrs Perkins and Mr Homer Wunder for their kindness, and to Mr and Mrs Herbert Newhard.
Christian Ruchle a prominent citizen of Crawford township died last Friday from paralysis after long illness. Born February 28 1848 in Big Spring township Seneca County he leaves a widow a son and two daughters. He was a Salem Lutheran Church member. Funeral at his home Monday November 4 with Rev S J Taylor of Carey officiating. Burial at McCutchenville.
