Ohio State University psychological test forms administered to sophomores and seniors mark a twice-tested year. Carey-Upper Sandusky rivalry looms as the Nov 11 game draws keen interest. Community Chest drives and school activities fill the week with chapel programs and student performances under teacher supervision.
Warpole chapter O E S of Upper Sandusky will entertain Warpole chapter O E S Thursday evening November 9 at 8 o clock in the Masonic chapter room. Members are requested to be present for a social evening with refreshments served.
Helen Stadler from Bonne Bell will present a free cosmetics demonstration at the Wild Rose beauty shop from November 6. Ladies are invited to attend and call 313 for details.

The Carey Community Chest 1940 campaign aims to raise 1800 with sponsors including churches township trustees American Legion Farmers' Community Club Kiwanis Club and auxiliary. Officers include Supt Earl B Driver and Mrs Richard Frederick. The Chest funds hot noon day meals for schoolchildren in cold months and supports local Red Cross and Anti Tuberculosis Society efforts through education relief and seal drives.
Carey committee activities include Red Cross efforts, Boys and Girls programs, anti tuberculosis society work, and school band support coordinated by the Carey Welfare Board and Carey County agencies.
The 1940 Community Chest in Carey advocates a single organized fund drive to support charitable and welfare groups. Ninety five percent of Chest funds benefit children, funding clothing, medical care, and character-building opportunities for all children regardless of parental status.
This group drawn from Churches American Legion Auxiliary and other bodies works mainly with school children. Shoes overshoes and clothing are provided on teacher recommendation or Red Cross secretary investigation, with annual appeals for used garments and serviceable items distributed as needed.
The Carey committee comprises four men and two women including appointees from business, town Council, the American Legion and Kiwanis Scout groups, the Girl Scout leader, and the Superintendent of Schools. Its purpose is to foster character building and citizen training among local youth through Boy and Girl Scout activities. The Carey Schools Band is funded by the Board of Education with Chest support aiding its instruments and upkeep, while the band provides weekly summer concerts to the community.
Mrs Russell Gottfried underwent a spinal operation at Toledo hospital performed by ee Quaid of the Mayo clinic who last week operated on JE Reynolds of Carey. She had been ill for months with rheumatism and is reported to be getting along nicely. Her husband and sister in law Mrs Hoff stayed in Toledo from Monday morning until Tuesday night.
Maumee barber James Nees, 36, was jailed in Toledo after a fatal shooting of Elmer Beebe, 46, during a poker game dispute. Authorities say the argument began over cards and deputies used tear gas to extract Nees from his shop. Beebe was a cousin of Mrs. S H Klepfer, northwest of town.
Carey chapter No. 159 R A M will hold a regular convocation Friday evening November 3. Officers for the coming year will be elected and refreshments will be served.
Hayden Fouts former Carey high school football coach writes to The Carey Times praising the season. Carey has 5 wins 0 losses and a 6-6 tie with Toledo Scott. Other scores include Columbus East 12-6 Elyria 20-0 Dayton Roosevelt 44-0 Ironton 18-7 and Cincinnati Withrow 38-0. Remaining schedule lists Portsmouth Springfield Hamilton and Marion St Marys game results unknown.
The Knights of Pythias held a weekly pinochle party Tuesday evening at Castle hall with Knights and friends enjoying an hour of games and a social hour. Lodge 7:30 p m November 7, committee invites members to bring guests.
The Friday event features games, music, and activities aimed at students, families, and staff. Organizers invite the community to join in a festive evening with performances and food stalls planned across the campus.
Miss Angela Haford a senior at St Mary of the Springs College Columbus and four other outstanding campus women have been chosen for Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges She is president of the home council Lansbury hall and active in literary and musical work Her sister Miss Margaret Haferd also earned the honor during her college career.
The Carey WCTU will meet with Mrs Almon Blue on W Fund Ing Street at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon.
The JT club will meet Thursday November 9 with Mrs. Olivera Cessige. The date formerly announced was October 26.
Polls open Tuesday November 7 for the election of E W Mullholand to the Board of Public Affairs. This campaign advertisement urges Democratic voters to support Mullholand on the ballot.
Mrs W H Houk Mrs Parl C Goff and Mrs Samuel Gunther attended the Ohio grand chapter of the Eastern Star meeting held in Toledo last week.
Tomorrow night at 7 30 the high school carnival opens with 10 cent admission and a door prize drawing including chickens and turkeys. Features include dancing country store fish pond exhibits and amusements with a refreshment stand run by student groups. Proceeds go to the activity fund and Donald Tarbox of Findlay will perform a comedy act in clown costume.
The October meeting of the Carey Farmers' Community Club met at the K of C rooms. Plans were set to entertain Kiwanis on November 9. T D Romig Allan Baker and Dan Weber led programs with Hawaiian numbers by Richard Kurtz Billy Dow and Franklin Elchert. A C Camp discussed Georgia farming and fertilizer needs. E L Woosley warned of higher taxes under Bigelow amendments and stressed local finance risks. Sandwiches and coffee were provided by Lonsway Rickle and Gottfried. Committees named for the November meeting.
The first session of a young men's farm short course will be held Monday evening November 6 at 743 in the vocational agriculture room at Carey High School. All young men interested in agriculture are invited to attend the weekly meetings this fall and winter. At this first meeting the program will be set up, officers will be elected, and a choice of subjects will be voted on. R H Sturgeon, Vocational Agriculture Instructor, Carey High School.
The Crawford chapter of OES will meet on November 17. The agenda includes officer education and the annual train turner at 30. All members are urged to attend.

About 152 people attended the Wyan dot county hearing in Upper Sandusky on the National Lime and Stone Co request to vacate county road 100 A. The company argued quarry need and local payroll impact, while several Carey residents and officials opposed the move. The commissioners reserved decision until Monday November 6 at 10 am.
Sixty two pullets were stolen last Thursday or Friday night from Dan K Clouse six miles north of Upper Sandusky. Lonsway, agent for the Farm Bureau Insurance, says Clouse has received 2480 dollars to cover losses and that insurers cooperate with local authorities in efforts to locate the perpetrators.
A revival begins at St Johns Church six miles northwest of Cures on Wednesday evening November 8 and runs through Sunday November 19. Evangelist Warren MelIntyre of Wilmore Kentucky will lead the meetings with Sunday afternoon services starting at 2 30.
