Teachers Hired by Crawford Ridge Board of Education

The Crawford Ridge Board of Education announces new hires including Miss Edna Schéenffer of Cygnet Waytiffy and Miss Ruth Edie of Mt. Blanchard along with Grace Chapel, Troy Rangeler, Shuman and Harry Schubert. West Ridge adds Miss Ella Merrick and Miss Elnora Hollett from Upper Sandusky. Berry sources include Edison Huston of Arcadia and F L Livingston Beebe and Paul James of Marion, with some not assigned.

Frost Causes Crop Damage Across Strawberries Beans and Onions

Frost last week harmed crops with strawberries and beans suffering notable damage and onion growers losing portions of their harvest. The muck soil was frozen about half an inch deep.

Criger Son Receives Navy Chaplain Appointment

Mr and Mrs L S Criger of west of town announce their younger son Rev Earl Mack Criger has been appointed chaplain in the United States Navy with the rank of lieutenant junior grade. A Yale Divinity School graduate and former Navy World War veteran, he will join the Pacific fleet after stints at the Philadelphia Navy Yard and Trinity Episcopal Church in New Haven.

Scholarship win for Ralph Pontius at Ohio State College of Agriculture

Ralph Pontius, a senior, won a 180 dollar College of Agriculture scholarship at Ohio State University after competing with hundreds of classmates. The award allocates 20 scholarships yearly with five per state quarter, based on high grades from an April exam. Ralph spent about three hours on the test and valued his effort at sixty dollars per hour.

About 15 business men met at the Chamber of Commerce room Monday to organize a permanent chamber and elect officers. A meeting is set for Tuesday evening June 3 at the same place for finalization and leadership selection.

May Pilgrimage A Success At Shrine Gathering

The May Pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation closed with a strong turnout. A special train carried 672 from Sandigky City and nearby areas, with 1000 plus in the Tiffin procession. Numerous parishes from Kirby to Upper Sandusky attended, and many Franciscan Fathers joined the services across multiple churches and ceremonies.
