Peoples Bank announces that no service charge will be deducted from checking accounts effective this month. All checking accounts will be free with no minimum balance required, a convenience highlighted by the local bank.
Mrs Robert Hussey of Dow Street was among four from Wyandot County at the Ohio Association for Retarded Children convention May 22 at the Commodore Perry Hotel Toledo. Other Wyandot attendees included Mrs Walter Bought and Mrs William Grimes. Hussey and Mrs Whittaker joined presidents breakfast forums luncheon and a Kennedy Foundation talk by David B Ray Jr. Former governor Michael V DiSalle spoke at the evening banquet. Mayor John Potter of Toledo gave the welcome and Don Wolfe of the Toledo Blade acted as toastmaster. The Lucas County unit hosted the convention.
Owen Courtad a Heys Avenue Elementary School teacher in Columbus received a Service To Youth award from the Columbus YMCA. a 12 year Grey leader he contributed over 1120 hours to youth programs and for six summers directed a Columbus playground. He also taught a 10th grade catechism at St Brendan Church and served as a lay Sunday Mass commentator. Owen his wife and four children live at 379 Crescent Drive Hilliard.
Shuffleboard results from the Carey tournament name Edwin King and Mary Shiley as Tuesday champions over Harold Shiley and Gladys Yentzer. Consolation winners Lee Yentzer and Carl Kimmel defeated Henry Piergini and Reed Steen. Friday results saw Carl Kimmel and Reed Steen beat Mary Pieracino and Helen King. Consolations Emma Steen and Mary Shiley edged Robert Smith and Edwin King. Memorial Day event set for May 31 at 6 pm in Memorial Park shelterhouse. Charlotte's Beauty Salon to close May 31 to June 14.
All Leaders Brownies and Girl Scouts are asked to meet at 9 a.m. on May 31 at the library to participate in the Memorial Day Parade. Uniforms are not required. Parents are asked to pick up girls after services at St. Mary's Cemetery.

The Post Office will be closed all day Monday May 31 in observance of Memorial Day. There will be no residential or rural deliveries or window service.

The 1965 Vanlue High School baccalaureate and commencement will be held at Vanlue School Sunday with the service starting at 2 p.m and the commencement at 3 p.m Dr K C DeGood of Toledo University will deliver the evening address. Several minor collisions were reported this past week. A 1959 sedan driven by Mildred Bort westbound on We Findlay Street attempted a turn near Waterworks Park and injured a passenger Sister Irene Hohmar. No arrests were made. Last Friday at 9:30 two cars parked by the high school sustained slight damage when Wesley Philips backed a 1957 DeSoto into John Seifert’s 1961 Oldsmobile on Lake Street.
Harold Shiley manager of Carey Columbia Gas of Ohio and Mrs Gerald Rickle clerk were honored at a Fort Findlay Hotel dinner for a perfect audit rating. They are the first office in the company with two consecutive perfect audits and three of the last five audits have been perfect. The audit covers 26 items, and Columbia Gas serves over 1200 customers in Carey area. An orchid and wall plaque were presented by company officials.

Dumping hours posted for Crawford Township specify 12 20 to 5 30 p m on Monday Wednesday and Saturday with dates 5 6 13 20 27 noted for the schedule.
Stombaugh's Grocery will be closed from May 24 to July 6 for a scheduled break. Consumers are advised to plan ahead for purchases and check for reopening updates.
The Carey Board of Education met in a special session on May 24 to authorize a Distributive Education unit at the high school for the 1965-66 year if enough senior interest exists. A survey among local business people showed favorable support. The board also discussed a joint Hancock County vocational school and accepted the resignation of high school teacher Doyce Rice.
Mrs Clarence Gamel of 126 High Street marked her 99th birthday born May 28, 1866 in Salem township. She recalls family history, outlived siblings, and recently moved near caregivers Earl Smalley and neighbors on High Street.
John Windau presided at Monday's council meeting as Chairman Hagley and Clyde Jenkins were absent. Police Chief Vincent Jacob urged installation of a traffic signal at the North Nand Vance Street corner to improve heavy truck flow. Estimated cost for a signal, pole, and controller from Econolite Co. is about 3600 dollars. Dunn proposed inviting a representative to present bids after further rights estimates.
The facility will close from May 28 to June 14 with intermittent updates on May 27 June 3 and June 10 detailing access changes and service interruptions.
Hank's Drive-In will open at 11 a.m. daily beginning Friday May 28. The Carey Farmers Co-op will be closed on Monday May 31.
Haines Products announces an expansion project to create a 7450 square foot concrete block warehouse addition at its North Street facility. The project targets July 1 completion with co owners A Haines and R J Spayd overseeing work by Newhard Studio and local contractors.
Rev Robert Jones pastor of Memorial EUB Church and Father Juniper Cummings rector of Our Lady of Carey Seminary will speak at Memorial Day services May 31 at Spring Grove and St Marys Cemeteries. CHS band will play. A firing squad salute and Taps end the program. Parade lineup includes Legion and VFW colors bands scouts and Brownies. Assemble at Patterson and Findlay at 9 30 am. Observance delayed to Monday as Memorial Day falls on Sunday.
Members of the American Legion Little League are scheduled to gather at Memorial Park at 5 pm today for a meeting. The event aims to discuss upcoming games and league activities.
