Seniors Farewell Marks Public School's Final Year

This week caps twelve years of school life with mixed emotions as the senior class bids farewell. Highlights include a volun tary study hall totaling about 3,200 hours and a baccalaureate service at the Methodist church led by Rev Marion E Jinsler, with Rev Roy B Leedy assisting.

Carey High School Class of 1939 Commencement

The largest Carey High School graduation to date will feature 52 graduates this Thursday evening in the auditorium. The program includes processional Pomp and Circumstance, a Salutatory by Harold Krout, a Valedictory by Mary Haford, and diplomas presented by T. D Romig. Officers are Paul Burson president and Mary Haford secretary treasurer.

Stores Close Mem Day and Thursday Afternoons Protest

Berwick General Store Purchased by Nye Family

Mr and Mrs J H Nye, long time Crawford store owners, have bought the Berwick general store from Mr and Mrs Herman Lonsway. Possession is set for June 9, and the Lonsways plan to move to Carey with their children. Mr Lonsway will remain with the New York Central Lines at Berwick as agent and operator.

Neon signs brighten Cares storefronts in three colors

Two new neon signs were installed in Cares over the past few days. A large General Electric and furniture sign in three colors lights Theis Furniture Exchange. The Soda Grill displays the words Tee Cream in neon.

Victory class meeting postponed to June 8 at Shuman home

The Victory class of the Methodist Sunday school will meet Thursday evening June 8 with Mrs George Shuman as hostess assisted by Mrs Ralph Heck.

Farmers' and Sportsmen's Protective Association Grows

The Farmers and Sportsmen's Protective Association expands to 165 members 125 sportsmen and 40 farmers. Members are urged to fully cooperate as work begins on a rearing pool and plans to clear backwater areas and build dams in Tymochtee creek. Work started last Sunday with Kenneth O'Brien's tractor and tools from Snyder Lumber Co. The group hopes to finish soon and continue evening labor.

Truck Fire Damages Becker Roofing Vehicle in Carey

Fire of undetermined origin encountered a Becker Roofing Co truck passing through Carey. Marshal Ed Weaver halted the vehicle at Alester's garage but the driver stopped at Shuman filling station. Firefighters extinguished the blaze destroying the truck body and its roofing materials bound for Upper Sandusky.

Fremont man injured in auto and train collision

Fred Corwin of Fremont former Carey resident suffered several broken ribs when his car was struck by a Mercury streamliner at a grade crossing in Fremont on Thursday evening May 11. The car was wrecked and carried 100 feet along the track before he was freed and taken to Community hospital for treatment.

Memorial Services and Legion Ceremonies Planned

Annual Memorial services at the Methodist church on Sunday May 28 are led by Earl Green Post American Legion. Members meet at 10 am. decoration at Spring Grove cemetery at 10 am Tuesday May 30. Legionnaires gather 9 am at the Legion hall and meet at the cemetery gate at 10 30 am for the program including invocation by Father Joseph, selection by Carey Schools Band, address by Rev Paul R Clouser, wreath placing, Star Spangled Banner, Benediction by Rev Roy B Teedy, firing squad and taps. Transportation requests should be directed to a legionnaire.
