Thousands joined the candle procession and closing services at the shrine of Our Lady of Consolation on Sunday afternoon despite cold skies. A Big Four train brought 600 people from Sandusky and Tiffin last Thursday, with many more arriving by auto. Bishop Stritch and his party arrived Thursday afternoon too late for the services.
The Victory class presents Mrs Jarley’s Wax Figgers on Thursday evening May 28 at 8:00 in the church recreational center. Tickets or admission details are not listed in the readable text.
The Children’s Clinic invites all ages of children to the May 26 event at the Presbyterian church in Upper Sandusky. Babies and preschoolers are especially urged, with undernourished or underdeveloped infants prioritized. Miss Louise Walter, county Red Cross secretary, should be notified in advance for case history and clothing needs. Local physicians are welcome to participate and orthopedic specialists will assist adults with certain crippling conditions toward rehabilitation.
The pastor begins a twelve part Sunday night series titled The History of the Christian Church. The first sermon covers The Church of the Apostles with others detailing Pentecost to today. Morning topic Facing the Program of Christ, Sunday school at 9 15, worship 10 30, Epworth League 7, evening service 8. Official board meets Monday night with all members urged to attend.
The Carey Farmers' Community club will hold its monthly meeting Monday evening May 25 at the Farmers' creamery. J. T. Myers will discuss alfalfa and dairy cows. Refreshments will be served and the community is invited.
The Junior Senior banquet Friday night featured a pink and green decorated auditorium and a two section layout for banquet and dancing. Sophomore domestic science girls served a six course menu while Roger Lindsay and Margaret Pipes led the program. The Senior class prophecy and will were read, with toast to the seniors by Miss Cleo Sawyer. The evening ended with games and dancing and a full house for the baccalaureate sermon. The Junior class elected its Annual staff for next year headed by Editor in Chief Kirtland Straw.
Hats continue sale through the month with prices 198 dollars, 2.98 dollars, and 38.75 dollars. Among the selection is a Suit able to any occasion from Helen Hat Shoppe located on S. Vance Street.
The graduating class stage play Adam and Eva drew a full audience as the second event of commencement exercises. Cast includes James King Grant Gibson Corinthia Julia Kinsinger Clinton DeWitt Julie DeWitt Eva King Aunt Abby Rocker Dr Jack Delameter Horace Pilgrim Uncle Albert Feck Adam Smith Harold Graves Lord Andrew Gordon James Yohe.
A large male pheasant collided with a moving truck head on near the Carey stone quarry north of the A J Kin ney farm last Saturday morning. The bird shattered the upper half of the windshield, then fled into a field. None of the four men E W Moser James Roof Ambrose Suber and Cecil Suber were injured. The pheasant recovered and ran away unhurt.
J. L. Hood has sold the house he recently built on Grove street to Mrs. L. E. Geiger.
About 200 members of the Lutheran church attended the annual meeting last Monday. W R Kurtz was elected trustee Carl Baughman elder and L E Straw deacon for three years. Reports covered 1924 1925 as contracts for a new parish hall and remodeling proceed. Services set for next Sunday with further announcements to follow. A post meeting program featured piano and vocal duets and light refreshments.
The mayor proclaims May 23 as Poppy Day in Carey Ohio designating the American Legion and Ladies' Auxiliary as organizers. Citizens are asked to support by buying poppies to aid widows and orphans of deceased veterans.
The Board of Education secured two more high school teachers Miss Alma Leedom of Fostoria will return to Carey after an Arcadia principalcy six years and Miss Mildred Russell of Toledo who taught in Morral last year will join Carey teachers.
Helen Thomas, daughter of Mr and Mrs M H Wo Thomas, northwest of town, severely sprained her right arm Monday while cranking the Ford used for her daily school trip. Miss Thomas is a member of the Carey high school class graduating this week.
The Carey Times reports a revision of the Pioneer Picnic mailing list for the event on Thursday June 11. Readers are asked to send suggested names to the Times office.
The Pioneer Picnic in Stolls grove east of Carey on Thursday June 48 will host congressman Brooks Fletcher of Marion as keynote. Fletcher, representing Ohio's Highth district, is praised by Judge Ben B. Lindsey for his leadership and devotion to education and public service.
Last week on the Dixie Highway near Lima a Buick brougham carrying Mr and Mrs Urban Kokenge and children was seriously damaged after a collision with a Ford driven by three Findlay youths. The Hancock county sheriff charged the riders, who pleaded guilty to intoxication. Mr Kokenge, formerly in the hardware business, plans a Miami Florida move to start a retail furniture and electric stove business with a Cincinnati partner.
Next Sunday morning the pastor will preach on The Appealing Christ. Evening blackboard talks cover fundamentals of the Christian faith. Worship Sunday in church while excavation work begins this week. Conference Lather League convention will be held at Fremont on May 30 and 31 with a large delegation from the Jobaby League selected to attend.
Supt L Tod of Sycamore public schools visited Tuesday and brought the loving cup won by Carey athletes at the recent track meet. County Supt Grove delegated him to purchase the cup which Carey won.
A parish school hosts shows by the O L C Club on Monday and Tuesday evenings June 1 and 2. The public is invited to attend this school entertainment event.
Lyman Baker a Carey high school senior led 401 contestants in Ohio State University College of Agriculture scholarship exams announced May 15. Five scholarships cover four years of tuition valued at 180 dollars each. two of the Northwestern quarter winners are Carey students Albert Eck and Baker.
Funeral services for Mrs. Catherine Saltz who died Wednesday morning at her daughter’s home in Marion will be held Saturday at 2 30 p m at the Lutheran church with interment in Spring Grove cemetery. She lived in Carey and vicinity nearly 40 years and moved to her children about a decade ago. Survived by sons George Saltz of Columbus and William Saltz of Findlay and daughters Mrs Frank Dixon Mrs Ira Pine of Marion and Mrs George B Long of Pareland Texas 18 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. George Saltz preceded her in death 16 years ago and rests in Spring Grove cemetery. Born in Weinsburg Germany she was in her 85th year.
Mayor and Mrs. Almon Blue rush to Ottawa where Hector and Blue drug store owned by the Blue family burns. Merle Blue, elder son, among proprietors, 5 AM fire destroyed stock though building saved. This follows two other fires in Ottawa’s business district in recent weeks with limited insurance.

Manager Capell of the Strand theatre announces the new picture Chickie will be shown next Monday and Tuesday in Carey making its local debut ahead of larger towns in the region. The Toledo showing occurred less than two weeks ago, marking Chickie as a fresh release for this area.
A regular meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary will be held at the Legion rooms Monday evening May 25 at 7 30. Social committee members include Mrs COW McGill Mrs S RO Bame and Mrs Ed Bakie with Bert Krom assisting.
A daughter was born to Mr and Mrs Ray G Kissinger of Detroit on May 14. Mrs Kissinger is formerly Miss Caroline Smith, youngest daughter of the late Virgil Smith and Mrs. Nettie Davidson of Detroit.
