Clean-up Week in Cerey Sets May Start Date

Clean-up week in Cerey begins Tuesday May 16 with rubbish to be placed in good containers at the curb before truck arrival. Work starts in the east and moves west until the village is finished. Sealed bids due May 15 at 5 p.m. at the village clerk office. bidder must be ready to start May 16.

Two Carey Drug Stores Share Thursday Closings

Beginning May 11 one of the two Carey drug stores will close each Thursday afternoon and evening. On May 11 the Ewing drug store closes, and on May 18 Harrys drug store closes. The schedule continues through the summer months.

WAGNER FAMILY OF FOSTORIA RECOGNIZED FOR WAR SERVICE

Mr and Mrs Edward Wagner of Fostoria have six sons in the armed services with one awaiting induction. All six sons are married and the six wives work in essential war tasks. Mrs Wagner received the wreath of honor for this record. Mr Wagner is brother to G Wagner of Carey.

Three Reinhart Brothers in World War II Service

The Reinhart family of Carey shows three sons serving in the armed forces. Donald Reinhart is a prisoner of war in Germany, with letters and a card sent home bearing the German censor stamp Gepruft 68. Censors and a torn letter fragment are noted, with the missing portion likely from a November 5, 1942, dated note.

Carey Boys Transferred to Admiralty Islands

Pfe Ralph S. Karcher and Cpl. Lester Smiley have been moved from New Guinea to the Admiralty Islands in the Southwest Pacific theater. Both are sons of Mrs. Anna Karcher and Mr. and Mrs. Ire Smiley respectively.

Grandson Reported Missing From World War II Flight

Arthur C M Heibert of Akron reported missing after a April 18 bombing mission from England. He is the grandson of Rev. Dr F. B. Heibert of Lancaster and a navigator aboard one of 36 bombers that did not return. Some hope remains he bailed out and is a prisoner in Germany or Switzerland where 13 of the 36 landed.

Carey high school crushed Sycamore 12-3 as Dick Lah pitched a 3 hitter with 15 strikeouts and drove in six. Lah also led the offense with two doubles while Babe Adams started and Sycamore committed four errors in the first inning. The Blue and White improved to 4 wins for the season. next up Nevada on Wednesday and a district tournament game versus Alger at Ol Fort on Monday.
