Local Notes From Upper Sandusky and Sycamore Leader

Over fifty teachers took the examination in Upper Sandusky. A marriage license was issued to Fred H. Richenbach and Nettie Laubis of Jackson Township. Upper Sandusky post office moved to new quarters. A six hundred barrel oil well was struck on M. H. Brinkerhoff’s Louisiana plantation. Bicycle thefts reported. two stolen last Friday and Monday. Northern Ohio baseball league organized with Marion, Kenton, Toledo, Tiffin, Upper Sandusky. Jack Haggerty elected president and secretary. A bolt of lightning struck a maple tree near Frank Zwilling’s residence. gas line affected and Mrs. Zwilling shocked. Chautauqua dates set for July 2–6 with Sycamore hosting. Wagon auto collision south of Kirby injured Tobe Snyder. auto destroyed. Community support for Josephus Hufford with neighbors aiding plowing. Abner Niebel died at 92. funeral held in Sycamore. Niebel family noted for long lifespans.

Extra Literary Meeting of the Mehr-Licht Club

The Mehr-Licht Club will hold an extra literary meeting Friday evening with Mrs. H. G. Chambers. The program for November 13 includes a biography of John Burroughs by Mrs. Anna Hoff a paper on When Nature Goes to Sleep by Mrs. J. G. Kennerley and a talk on Natures Moving Pictures by Mrs. Herbert Newhard.

City Council Receives Salaries, Passes Fire Dept. Pay Ordinance

City Council met Monday night for salary payments and routine bills. The mayor announced a waterfront Main street discussion with no final decision. Judge Babst’s Asphalt Paying Block Co. suit was noted. no action taken. An ordinance setting fire department salaries was introduced and approved on a suspended rule.

Judge Babst rules for Asphalt Pav ing Block Co in Carey case

Judge Babst, after remand on a facts stipulation, ruled in favor of the Asphalt Paving Block Co against the village of Carey. The suit sought 800 dollars withheld for late completion, arguing overtime forfeiture was void absent a completion bonus. Appeal status undecided, but likely to be pursued.

Well Equipped Shop Opens Candy Ice Cream Firm

A. Geha has started a candy and ice cream manufactory in the Simonis block on South Vance Street. He installed a gasoline engine a cement floor and various candy and ice cream machinery in the rented room. The front room will display wholesale fruit and candies. His brother Charles Geha has joined from Toledo to run the business.

Detoured Trains After Big Four Freight Flips Cog

No. 96 the last Big Four freight derailed Tuesday morning near Midway after flipping a cog and entering the ditch. Trains were detoured to Forest route during the incident.

Automobile Crash Near Town Injures Swartz Family

Last Sunday forenoon a serious wreck occurred on the water bound pike two miles southeast of town. Mr and Mrs William Swartz and daughters Ethel Bernice and Mildred Sorg of Fostoria were en route to Upper Sandusky when a rear tire burst causing a flip. Mrs Swartz broke her left arm wrist. Mr Swartz broke left collar bone and bruised right shoulder. They were taken to John Wright home then to their house by train on the Hocking Valley line.

Night Policeman Recovers Stolen Bicycle On Freight Train

A bicycle stolen from Mr. Frazier was found on a coal car of a northbound Hocking Valley freight at Upper Sandusky. Thief not present. Marshal Lstle notes numerous similar thefts and shows a stack of odd postal cards and letters in his possession.
