Mayor Ray Peiffer defeated William Jennings 328 to 142 in the primary and will run unopposed in November. An insurance agent and realtor by trade, Peiffer pledges to lead the community to the best of his ability and will take office January 1, 1968 for a four year term with no Republican ballot contests in the primary.

Patchwork Vote Returns in Village Election Totals

O L C Cafeteria Set To Open At Shrine May 7
The National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey will inaugurate its new cafeteria on May 7 at 11 a.m. The 400-seat facility serves pilgrims from Michigan Illinois Indiana Kentucky Pennsylvania and Ohio and includes a street-side snack bar. Construction began in spring 1966 and the Cafe will operate daily 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. May through October with potential year-round hours if demand grows.

Thomas H. Griffith, 77, a former Carey resident, died April 12 in a Cincinnati hospital. He played in the National League from 1913 to 1925 as an outfielder for the Boston and Brooklyn Braves, and for Cincinnati and the Chicago Cubs.

Alfred Dean Watson driving on E Brown Avenue struck a parked car owned by William R Jacob. Minor damage to Watson car, $25 to Jacob car. Watson fined $10 and costs for reckless operation. Monica Frasure backed into the Cole car on West Findlay Street causing $90 damage to Cole and $5 to Frasure. No changes filed.

Two Robberies Reported in Carey on Thursday Morning
Carey police reported two break ins at Jimmy's Bar and Twining's Bar on East Findlay Street between 3 30 and 6 00 am. A large cache of coins and cash was taken from Jimmy's including Canadian half dollars Mercury dimes and Kennedy half dollars. Twining's lost only about nine dollars in pennies after a glass break in. Investigations by Carey Police and Wyandot County Sheriff's Department are ongoing. A separate note stated livestock losses due to dog attacks at a local farm.
