Peiffer Lands Victory in Local Mayoral Primary

Mayor Ray Peiffer defeated William Jennings 328 to 142 in the primary and will run unopposed in November. An insurance agent and realtor by trade, Peiffer pledges to lead the community to the best of his ability and will take office January 1, 1968 for a four year term with no Republican ballot contests in the primary.

Patchwork Vote Returns in Village Election Totals

Democratic candidates won the mayoral race with Peiffer 328 to Jennings 142. Councilman Henry Pieracini secured 285 votes and will start a new term January 1 1967. Bond issue and apportionment failed 382 to 211. Precinct results show Peiffer carrying most wards with wide margins.

O L C Cafeteria Set To Open At Shrine May 7

The National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey will inaugurate its new cafeteria on May 7 at 11 a.m. The 400-seat facility serves pilgrims from Michigan Illinois Indiana Kentucky Pennsylvania and Ohio and includes a street-side snack bar. Construction began in spring 1966 and the Cafe will operate daily 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. May through October with potential year-round hours if demand grows.

Ex NL outfielder Frank Griffith dies at 77

Thomas H. Griffith, 77, a former Carey resident, died April 12 in a Cincinnati hospital. He played in the National League from 1913 to 1925 as an outfielder for the Boston and Brooklyn Braves, and for Cincinnati and the Chicago Cubs.

Scatterpins Bowling Banquet Honors 1967-68 Officers

The Scatterpin League held a banquet at Bowl-Era with 53 members and 4 guests. Ruth Laird played organ music, an officer slate was elected for 1967-68 led by Jane Canode, with awards given for season highs and achievements to members including Ruth Riester and Karen Bame. The 1967-68 season begins September 6 at Bowl-Era.

Police Department Report Accidents In Findlay area

Alfred Dean Watson driving on E Brown Avenue struck a parked car owned by William R Jacob. Minor damage to Watson car, $25 to Jacob car. Watson fined $10 and costs for reckless operation. Monica Frasure backed into the Cole car on West Findlay Street causing $90 damage to Cole and $5 to Frasure. No changes filed.

Two Robberies Reported in Carey on Thursday Morning

Carey police reported two break ins at Jimmy's Bar and Twining's Bar on East Findlay Street between 3 30 and 6 00 am. A large cache of coins and cash was taken from Jimmy's including Canadian half dollars Mercury dimes and Kennedy half dollars. Twining's lost only about nine dollars in pennies after a glass break in. Investigations by Carey Police and Wyandot County Sheriff's Department are ongoing. A separate note stated livestock losses due to dog attacks at a local farm.

Carey Village Council Passes Two Emergency Ordinances

Carey Ohio village council met Monday with Mayor Ray Peiffer presiding. Two ordinances were approved with suspensions and readings, including salary adjustments for electrical workers and a new utility excise tax paid via electric bills starting June 1967.

Indian Trail Nursing Home Opens With Grand May 7

Mr and Mrs Don Lynch announce the Indian Trail Nursing Home on Route 199 will have a full day grand opening Sunday May 7. The annex adds 22 beds for a total of 44 and features a new kitchen dining area and beauty shop. Construction began last October and the facility includes heated private rooms with adjoining baths and in room intercoms to the nurses station.

Derby Day Opens at Carey Conservation Club Grounds

The annual fishing derby begins Sunday May 7 at the Carey Conservation Club grounds with about 1000 pounds of fish released into the club lake. Prizes are tied to tagged channel cats and sponsored by Carey area businesses. Lunch is served, admission is free, bait available, and members should bring 1967 membership cards.

Postal Savings Are Announced Across United States

United States Postal Savings certificates totaling over 1400 dollars on deposit at the Carey Post Office will stop earning interest for 22 local depositors on April 27, 1967. Postmaster Bill Howard urged depositors to close accounts and invest in United States Savings Bonds or the Freedom Shares beginning May 1, which offer 4.74 percent interest.
