Senior Play Refreshes With Plain and Fancy

Carey high school presents two act musical comedy Plain and Fancy tonight and tomorrow at 8 p.m. Senior boys return with clean shaved looks and new haircuts as life on stage mirrors Amish and Dutch life. Directors Mrs. Jerry Blackburn and Mrs. Ernest B. Leathers lead a large cast with Peggy Lortz at the piano and tickets available at the door.

Old Catholic Hall Razed for Shrine Cafeteria

The Old Catholic Hall, a 56 to 60 year old parish landmark, was torn down last Wednesday and burned Friday to clear the site for a new one floor brick cafeteria for the National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation. Bids for the new building were received Tuesday in Findlay. The contract will be awarded next week.

Library Board Honors Carey Area Women Groups for Fund Drive

Water Test Findings Prompt Health Dept Notice

Wyandot County Health Department releases findings from an investigation into reported water contamination. About 80 samples were taken from seven wells on farms, with three showing very high nitrate levels and the rest borderline. Livestock losses are noted on at least two farms and a new well was drilled. No proven link to waste dumped by Union Carbide Corp in a quarry. No contamination found near McCutchenville area.

Mayor and Clerk Attend Columbus Seminars

Mayor Ray Peiffer and Village Clerk Gladys Richardson attended Columbus seminars on March 18 19 and March 25. Peiffer joined the Annual Conference of the Mayors Association of Ohio with a session for new mayors at the Christopher Inn Columbus while Richardson joined the seminar for newly elected or appointed Village and City Fiscal Officers at the Sheraton Columbus Hotel. Topics included municipal finance duties budget bond financing and fund management. Both found the sessions enlightening.

Careful collision near Peoples Bank injures two cars

Carey Police investigated a Monday accident on Irigh Street near Peoples Bank. Donna Zender of Columbus backed out to allow a car by, then struck John Briggs of Columbus driving a 65 Plymouth on W Findlay Street, causing 150 dollars in damage to Briggs vehicle and none to Zender’s. Zender cited for failure to yield at Mayor's Court.

Carey School Board approves 3.5 mill operating levy

Carey Board of Education met in emergency session with Wyandot County Auditor Edward Beard on March 29 and voted to place a 3.5 mill operating levy on the May 3 primary ballot. The move follows a North Central Association review calling for at least six more teachers across English science math commerce industrial arts and home economics to handle growing enrollments.

Mayor's Court Hears Three Traffic Cases in Carey

Mayor Raymond Peiffer heard three cases Wednesday night. Joseph Gilday of Toledo and Danny Barger of Findlay were fined $10 and costs each for disobeying a traffic signal. Ivan Fairchild of Barnett Creek Ky. was fined $25 and costs for failing to stop after an accident damaging a 1962 Ford owned by Merle Coupler on Mar 19 near 128 Patterson Street.

Carey Blue Devils Honored At Tiffin Dinner For 22 0 Season

The Carey Blue Devils received a formal dinner in their honor Monday in the Emerald Room at the Sheun Hotel. Attendees included the champs, cheerleaders, Coach Cooper, Superintendent Myers, Principal Wenting, and Mayor Ray Peiffer, with hotel owner Richard Jacobs presenting a steak dinner to about 500 guests.

Leo Beagle Injured in Two Car Collision

Leo Beagle Sr of Carey was injured in a two car crash two miles southwest of Carey at the US 23 Wyandot 97 intersection. His condition was listed as good at Blanchard Valley Hospital. The State Highway Patrol investigated the Friday crash as extensive damage was noted to both vehicles.

Change Approved For Village Bookkeeping

Mayor Ray Peiffer announced the Village of Carew has state approval to replace the antiquated bookkeeping system. Groundwork by Clerk Gladys Richardson and Village Administrator George Dunn included consultations with state auditor RB Sullivan, who labeled the old method as city‑scale gross business. Final permission came after talks in Columbus with the State Auditor’s office.

Carey Fishermen Fined For Angling License Violations

Three Carey rod and reel fisher men were arraigned Friday before County Judge George Reinbolt at Clyde on angling without a license. Allan Thomas James Troiano and Ralph C Vogel were fined 15 and assessed 750 each. The 1965 license expired February 28 and the 1966 license is now in force.
