State highway plan to straighten Route 93 at Wyandot hearings

The state director of highways will hold a public hearing at 10 AM Monday April 8 in the Wyandot county commissioners office at Upper Sandusky to consider arguments for and against a revised Route 93 alignment north of the county home road. The simplified plan lowers cost by about 100000, uses land from the county home farm, abandons about 1800 feet of road, and builds a new roadway 70 feet east of the bridge along existing telephone poles.

Installing Air Conditioning at New Carey Theatre Begins Soon

Work on the New Carey Theatre to install air conditioning starts next month using a deep well system. A 10 inch drilled well 240 feet deep will be installed beneath the building. Richard Bader of Toledo, a former service member, has taken over as theatre operator from Esa Jacob and resides in Upper Sandusky.

Heavy snows recalled from May 21 1863 and 1883

Oscar Twining remembers a heavy snow on May 21 1883 when living with the Jacob Thomas family on the Ridge. Four feet of drift blocked the lane and the family trekked through a field to reach the road before the snow vanished by May 23. Corn had been repeatedly plowed and frozen to the ground. Farmers ordered seed from Kansas but ears were thumb sized with no kernels.

Ohio section bans running livestock on public roads

Section 5809 of the General Code of Ohio prohibits owners from allowing horses mules cattle sheep goats swine dogs or geese to run at large on public roads or unenclosed land. Violators face a fine of one to five dollars plus costs of prosecution.

Village Buys Ford Steel Dump Truck

At a special village council meeting, the purchase of a Ford dump truck from Lanning Motor Sales was authorized for 1,678.18 and to be equipped with a Marlon dump body and hydraulic unit. A Chevrolet cab and chassis with a line truck body for the electric department was also authorized, but purchase orders are on hold pending specifications. Bids accepted: McDaniel Motor Sales for the cab and chassis at 1,360 and American Good and Body Truck Co. for the line truck body at 2,236.83.

Carey People Attend Fort Worth Rodeo

Mr and Mrs Glenn Miller and Mrs Garnett Davis returned to Carey March 15 after a two week Texas and Southwest trip. In Fort Worth they attended the rodeo 50th anniversary at the Will Rogers Memorial building with 6000 seats. Gene Autry appeared at each performance and the group saw the Earl Carroll Vanities direct from Hollywood. Floyd Kin Returns Home From Navy

Floyd Kin, gunner's mate third class and son of Mr. and Mrs. Emmet Kin near Forest, arrives home March 15 after an honorable discharge. Inducted October 28, 1943, he served 20 months on USS John C. Butler in the Pacific, earning Asiatic Pacific ribbon with five bronze stars, Presidential Unit Citation one star, American Theater ribbon, and Victory ribbon. He is brother of Mrs Sylvester Jesko of Carey.
