Carey Exempted Village Schools Open House Impresses

More than two hundred parents and friends attended the Carey Exempted Village open house. Teachers were available in all classrooms on Monday evenings to confer with parents. Exhibits across buildings showed a high level of educational atmosphere. The PTA and staff received praise for a well done event with cookies and coffee in the cafeteria. Brodrick Rife’s second graders led with the attendance banner.

Louise Sopher Wins Fifth Annual WCTU Speech Contest

Louise Sopher, a 7th grade student, won the 5th annual Junior speech contest sponsored by the Della Gilliland Woman's Christian Temperance Union. Other contestants included Cynthia Hughes and Douglas Frederick. judges were Mrs. Jerome Bernard and Mrs. R. B. Vogel.

Carp Contest Offers 25 Dollar Savings Bond Prize

Anglers bowmen and others are invited to enter a carp contest this summer for a $25 Savings Bond for the longest carp. A second prize is awarded to all entrants through a drawing at the end of the contest on Sept 15. Proceeds support Carey Conservation League and Carey Sportsman's Association outdoors activities. New York Central Seeks to Drop Cincinnati Toledo Trains

The New York Central Railroad asks Ohio Public Utilities Commission permission to abandon passenger trains 302 and 309 between Cincinnati and Toledo. A public hearing is set for 10 a.m. April 24. If approved, Carey would be left with only two passenger trains on the corridor via the C. and O. line between Toledo and Columbus.

Cars Collide in Route 15 Two-Vehicle Crash

A two car crash occurred at 10 40 p m Saturday on Route 15 a half mile west of Carey in Wyandot County. Eastbound Floyd H McKee 37 Mt Blanchard struck the rear of Joan E Orwiler 24 Carey turning north. Both vehicles sustained extensive front and rear damage but no injuries were reported.

Plan Community Good Friday Service at Christ Lutheran Church

State Loses Land Appropriation Suit in Wyandot County

The State of Ohio lost a two day highway land appropriation suit in Wyandot County Common Pleas Court. Jurors awarded Earl McLane 2500 total with 1437 for land taken and 1063 for damages to residue. Route 23 parcels lie partly in Crawford and Salem townships south of Crawford.

Carey Kiwanis Club heard two cancer education films presented by Mr. and Mrs. Wade Speelman from the Wyandot County American Cancer Society unit.
