Court Rules General Order 18 Invalid For State Courts

Common Pleas Judge William F. Duncan held General Order No. 18 invalid as applied to Ohio state courts in a personal injury case against the Cleveland Cincinnati Chicago and St. Louis Railway Co. and the Hocking Valley Railroad Co. The ruling notes the order would suspend Ohio territorial jurisdiction and that the 1918 act delegating legislative power to issue the order is unconstitutional. The suit, $515, was filed in Hancock County by J. R. Eyes tone of Wyandot County, arising there.

Lime boosts corn yields and soil health say Ohio experts

Lime application at the Ohio Experiment Station increased corn yields from 10 to 12 bushels annually and boosted overall five year crop profits by about 16.50 per acre, more than 200 percent above lime cost. Ground limestone is applied at 1 to 2 tons per acre, best done in spring after plowing, but not mixed with manure or fertilizers. Clover benefits first as a sign of calcium deficiency.

Cablegram mixup clears Red Cross in Baughman case

A correction notes Eugene Baughman did not get a Red Cross cablegram. Mrs. Baughman sent one and C. G. Spencer of the draft board sent another. Eugene reads the wife’s message, showing the first cablegram came from her, while letters arrive slowly. He is with the 1st Co of the 1st Provisional Battalion of the 37th Division at Le Mans with no early departure.

Obituary notes include Miss Anna Beistle of Upper Sandusky who died last Friday from apoplexy, born in 1836 in Newburg, Penn. Quarantine Remains At Luzader Home Over Diphtheria

Diphtheria has struck the Luzader family near town. The southwest residence of Mr and Mrs Charles Luzader has been under quarantine for two weeks and will not be lifted for ten more days. Their daughter Mrs Truman Stahl and her two children, Lehr aged three and Eula Vera seven months, contracted the disease. Also affected were Mr Stahl, Miss Anna Luzader and Lehr. The Luzader home was fumigated Tuesday.

Samuel Gunther of Wyan dot county becomes the first carrier to enter the Ohio War Savings contest. The winner in each county will be the carrier selling the most War Savings Stamps between March 10 and August 9, with a lake trip to Mackinac Island in August as the prize.

Home Missionary Meeting of Woman's Society

The Woman's Home Missionary Society of the Methodist church met at Mrs Margaret Southward's home. Mrs George Ash led the program with scripture, readings by Mrs Southward and Mrs Harshberger, a paper by Miss Bill Gibbs, and a discussion on war work and the Negro problem. James Phillips arrive from the service after ten months in France. He traveled with the signal corps of the 39th Division and came home with the 41st Division. He served in clerical work at the classification camp and later in infantry at Soings. He saw Amos Swihart of Vanlue and notes he has no cooties and plans to resume work as a Big Four lineman.

Display of half horsepower motor attracts crowd

Last Saturday evening Ma Reynolds displayed a one half horse power gasoline motor on the public square. The engine stood on a platform at the rear of his automobile and chugged away to illustrate its vigor. Many persons gathered as Mr Reynolds explained the motor's virtues.

Death of Two Day Old Son Near Carey

The two day old son of Mr and Mrs Theodore Reinhart four miles north of Carey died Friday morning. Funeral was held Saturday afternoon. Mrs Reinhart, formerly Miss Mary Benner, daughter of Mr and Mrs J Benner of 136 Coe street.
