Mr and Mrs I L Culler traveled to Columbus to attend a banquet at the Chittenden hotel honoring W J Galbroner mid career train master of the New York Central Lines. Galbroner, a Columbus resident, will move to Louisville with his son Homer Galbroner and family after retirement.
Hancock county common pleas court refused damages to Nelson G Inebnit in a $25,000 al ienation of affections suit against Charles S and May Egbert. The court granted Mildred Inebnit a divorce from Nelson G Inebnit on grounds of gross neglect of duty. Costs were assessed to the defendant.
Crawford chapter No 168 O B S holds regular meeting Friday at 7 30 pm with initiatory work. Past Matrons association dinner at 6 pm precedes the meeting. Mrs Cecil Laird worthy matron will be received as a member.
Mrs Frederick Nachbar and son L J Nachbar and Mrs Clifford Stoll attended the funeral services for Mrs Louise Morrison at Risingsun Sunday afternoon. Mrs Morrison is the mother of Floyd Morrison of Bellefontaine, a former Carey resident.
The Past Matrons association of Crawford chapter No 168 C. E. will hold initiatory work and a potluck dinner at the Masonic hall tomorrow afternoon.
The Fidelis Study club Section II meets this Thursday evening with Mrs. J. J. Kohmann east of town.
Bambys Beer Garden launches Saturday evening March 19 with music. Fred Ewing serves as manager.
The Townsend club will meet at the public library Monday evening at 7:80. HLZA Garn, secretary.
The Epworth Leagues Mid-Winter Institute will meet at First Methodist church in Carey from Friday to Sunday. A strong faculty offers seven classes with registrants choosing three. includes worship, tours of the Shrine Church, and a banquet. Registration costs 1.25 and lodging is offered by local hosts. Rev Stanley A Miller presides with Rev Marion E Tinsler as league president. The library honors Attorney H G Chambers for securing the Dorcas Carey public library with a portrait hung in the west reading room.
The Carey auto tag sales began strong with Harry Rook purchasing the first license. Week one and a half sales topped last year but this week dipped behind. A last day rush is expected as up to supper on Wednesday 260 licenses were sold by Registrar Elza Jacobs.
A Lenten missionary tea will be held at the Lutheran parish house on Friday March 25 from 3 to 5 pm under the auspices of the Jennie Lar month missionary society. The program will include a talk by Miss Jennie Powell. The women of the congregation are cordially invited to attend.
The village council met Monday to approve numerous bills. Items include Ohio Power Co energy for February, the Carey Times for government postal cards and printing, coal from Carey Farmers’ Cooperative, electrical supplies from Westinghouse and Graybar, and payrolls for water and electric line staff.
Dance at the Moose lodge hall Saturday night March 19 with ladies free and refreshments available.
Judge Russell H. Kear of Wyandot County common pleas and probate courts spoke on the duties of a juror at the Carey Kiwanis Club meeting held at Pilgrim House. He urged sponsoring a sight seeing trip to the Ohio Penitentiary for Carey High School boys, noting 714 have already made the trip.
Arthur S. Brooks resigns as Scout executive of the Harding Area Council. A committee will draft a resolution of appreciation. Brooks, a volunteer leader since 1911, led the council from 317 to 895 scouts and 370 scouters by 1937. He plans to move to Van Wert in April to resume landscape architecture and farm management.
Miss Margaret Pahl of Columbus daughter of Mrs Minnie Pahl of Carey recently passed the state board examination for trained nurses with an average of 89.9. Fewer than two thirds of more than 600 nurses passed. She graduate of Carey high school and the nurses training school of St Francis hospital Columbus.
Brother and sister report marriages of Zollon Audrush and Margie Audritsh. Margie wed Karl B. Lewis October 3, 1937 in Wellsburg West Virginia. Margie trained at Carey High School Warren Business College and Hiram College and works for Warner Company. The groom is with Republic Steel. The couple reside at 449 Belmont NE. Zellon married Rosemary Hoff February 12 in Indianapolis. he works as a radio operator at the Indiana statehouse and she is a stenographer there.
The pinochle contest at the Galt hotel concludes with Monday March 21 final night and March 28 banquet. Adam Ward and Don Hunter led last week with 786 points. Standings show Firemen, Knights of Pythias, American Legion, and Porcelain trailing values from 16,192 to 15,283.
Senators Robert J. Bulkley and Vic Donahey of Ohio overruled county Democratic input and urged the re appointment of Arn A Abbott as postmaster at Tiffin. Abbott, appointed in 1934 on William L Fiesinger’s recommendation, had the support of the Seneca County Democratic Executive Committee.
Advice indicates probable veteran enrollment in April 1938. Forward applications immediately as on file applications affect enrollee numbers. Submit any extenuating circumstances with a covering letter to W M L Marlin, manager Veterans Administration Cleveland.
The C L of C schedules a bake sale at Dible's plumbing shop starting about 9:30 AM on Saturday March 19 selling homemade bread rolls cake pie cookies dressed chickens noodles cottage cheese and more. A second sale is set for Saturday April 9 by the ladies.
Mrs J F E Myers of West Street reports a Sacred Lily of India beginning to bloom in her house. She says she moved the plant from the basement on February 20 and it now stands about 45 inches high.
A 10 pound son named Mervin Eugene was born Saturday to Mr and Mrs Paul Kauffman at the home of Mrs Kauffman’s parents Mr and Mrs Walter Dible four miles north of town. A second birth notes a son named Wesley Albert born March 5 to Mr and Mrs H M Patterson in East Hampton New York.
Gilbert Ellis announces candidacy for county commissioner in the primary on August 9 on the Democratic ticket. He asks Carey Times readers for support.
All the Carey family in the California flood region have been accounted for and are reported safe and well.
Notice states Dr J Semons will be away from his office due to ill health until April 1, directing patients to address inquiries to his practice during the absence.
Bettsville high school clinched the district title by defeating McCutchenville 40 18 after edging Carey 28 27 and beating Sulphur Springs 37 35 to reach the state tournament in Columbus. McCutchenville also advanced by beating Rawson 33 20 while Sulphur Springs topped Rawson 49 18 in a preliminary. Bettsville faces West Milton in the first Columbus game as 6 500 plus fans witnessed the district finals and manager Wayne Huffman was praised.
Flooding worsened as a late Tuesday shower dumped nearly a quarter inch in under an hour. The Blanchard River near Findlay rose to about seven feet, three feet below flood stage, with continued minor increases after rain.
Merchants' club drawing awarded prizes to William Bakies, Mayor P. A. Hendricks, and Marion Bland. Bakies won $5 in trade at Burson Clothing. Hendricks $5 in trade at Ewing drug store. Bland $48.38 in cash.
The Mary-Martha class of Christ Lutheran Sunday school will meet at Mrs. George Savidge’s home on S Patterson street Monday evening March 21. Committee members include Miss Louise Romig Miss Lucille Montague Mrs Warren Markley Mrs Robert Mott Mrs George Chadwick and the hostess.
Fire department responded to a car fire under the hood on W Findlay Street near the square. Mrs Clarence Hoopf of S Muncie Street had driven the vehicle downtown and left it parked while she went to the post office. The blaze was extinguished before arrival.
Theresa Frisch six year old daughter of Mrs Charles Keckler of Bucyrus formerly Carey was taken to Bucyrus City hospital Monday and on Tuesday underwent an operation for appendicitis. Mr and Mrs Keckler and Theresa were Carey visitors Sunday.
Notice announces a Palm Leaf Rebekah lodge meeting on Tuesday evening March 22 at 7 30 urging all members to attend for important business. The memorial committee of the district will meet at Rex Lodge Arlington this Thursday evening.
