Wyandot County Plans Psychological Exams for Retarded Children

The second meeting of the education group for retarded children was held in the Wyandot County courthouse on June 19. Members include Charles Emberling and Robert Deis with others led by Mrs. Eye stone and Judge Kear. A psychological examination will be arranged to assess the children’s retardation level and guide next steps.

Piatt Castles Open For Tours West Liberty Area

Mr and Mrs Robert Hussey and family visited Piatt Castles near West Liberty including Castle Piatt Mac-A-Cheek built in 1864 and Mac-O-Chee Castle built in 1879 both modeled on European designs. The two castles, owned by the Piatt family, feature frescoed walls and ceilings, historic antiques, and regular guided tours seven days a week.

Youth injured as car hits bicycle near Carey

Eight year old James E. Kear, child of Mr. and Mrs. Herman F. Kear, was hospitalized with a fractured arm and chipped teeth after a 1949 Pontiac driven by Genevieve Nachbar collided with his bicycle on county road 81 nine miles west of Upper Sandusky. Nachbar and passenger Rose Ann Weaver escaped serious injury. The incident occurred at 4 08 p.m. as both women were returning from Forest aircraft plant.

Teen-Age Road-E-O Attendees Shine in Cleveland Event

Bernard Kramer Wyan County general chairman attended the State Teen-Age Road-E-O in Cleveland along with county winners Henry Mekush Sycamore and Helen Ann Ellis Upper Sandusky. Mrs Chalmers Ellis accompanied her daughter. Mekush and Ellis had won the county Road-E-O in Carey on May 5 sponsored by the Carey Jaycees.

Wyandot Farmers vote against wheat marketing quotas

Wyandot County voters rejected strict marketing controls and higher support prices in a wheat quota referendum. Total 119 votes with 52 for and 67 against. 5,053 of about 60,000 eligible farmers voting across 88 counties.

Carey Woman Reunites With Long-Lost Father After Decades

Mrs. George Coakley formerly Inez Minton located her father Caritas A. Minton in the V A Domiciliary at Thomasville Georgia after searching since 1939. He is a World War I veteran who was gassed in service and has five grandchildren and one great grandchild. The elder Minton lives in Elizabethton Tennessee and may visit this summer.

Birthday Eve Injury Dislocates Elbow In Home Accident

Rebecca Dieter seven year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Virgil Dieter north of town dislocated her right elbow when she tripped in the kitchen while preparing to celebrate her birthday. The injury occurred Saturday evening as she reached for matches near a pail by the back door. Her arm will be cast for three weeks with exercises afterward to prevent stiffness.

Mrs Agnes R Clinger of Mifflin township is named Wyandot County Commissioner to fill the vacancy caused by the death of her husband Clarence C Clinger. The appointment by Judge Russell H McKear Recorder Alan W Bolyard and Auditor Edward L Beard lasts until after the next general election in November 1958. This makes her the second woman to serve as county commissioner in Wyandot.

Shirley Wisner Completing Studies

Miss Shirley Wisner will complete her studies Friday at the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Cleveland and take her state board examination the same day. She has accepted a position as medical laboratory technician in Dr Thomas R Shoupe’s Findlay office and will assume duties in a couple of weeks. Her mother Mrs J W Wisner and Mrs Ira Hablitzel will accompany her to Cleveland Friday to bring her to Carey.

Mrs Ronnie Conley Injured in Auto Incident Near Adrian

Mrs Ronnie Conley of east of Adrian and formerly of Carey is hospitalized at Mercy Hospital Tiffin for injuries from a late Saturday night incident at her home. She was reportedly struck by an automobile driven by her husband.
