The seventh Carey war bond drive is underperforming with only 52,499.50 dollars raised of an 116,000 dollar quota. Chairman 2Date Bater and local leaders blame waning enthusiasm after the European war’s end and urge renewed support to back troops fighting in distant theaters.
The Carey Kiwanis club held its regular meeting at Trubey's restaurant. President Earl Burson highlighted Kiwanis International's three fold community agricultural plan including soil erosion computation, sustainable farming, and new farm product markets. Guests Lt. James Logsdon and Wilfrid Logsdon attended, with service members sharing wartime experiences. Next week’s program is planned and all members are urged to attend.
Towns send congressional meet ing at Findlay drew strong attendance with broad interest in the Townsend plan. A Garey Townsend club gathering is set for Monday at 8 p m in the public library to boost support and attendance.
Cpl. John Lauden Slager 23, son of Mr and Mrs Charles Lauden Slager of west of Carey, is stationed in England and recently sustained a broken left jaw while serving as a mechanic and electrician in the air corps on B 17 bombers. He is the fifth family member hospitalized in recent months.

Lakeland Fishing Club members listed for 1944 are called to meet at the lake in the southwest Carey area on Thursday June 28 at 8 p m. R T Shontz serves as secretary.
Palm Leaf Rebekah lodge will meet Tuesday evening June 26 at 7:00 p m in the I O O F hall. The degree staff will practice at this meeting. All members are urged to attend.

Eugene Lab and Cecil Lab, sons of Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Lab of W North Street, reunited after nearly three years as their ships docked in a Pacific port. They spent five hours together on May 31 and four hours on June 1. They wrote a letter home and Cecil met war correspondent Ernie Pyle before his death, cherishing a $20 bill autographed by Pyle.
Leo Vaughn son of Mr and Mrs W A Vaughn east of Carey was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic action near Conthil France on 12 November 1944. After a direct hit disabled his tank destroyer Vaughn helped wounded crew to aid stations carrying the last man one hundred yards under enemy fire.
Real estate broker John Risner bought the Rev. John N. Theis property on Lake Street for redevelopment into four apartments. Polly's Lunch filling station on E Findlay Street sold to William Theis. A house and lot on N Vance Street sold to Mr and Mrs Van Baker, previously occupied by Mr and Mrs Charles Kentfield, who moved to Upper Sandusky. The Bakers and daughter Ruth will relocate from W Brown Avenue to their new home.
The Carey Times acknowledges receipt of a Caryatid copy for 1945 through the senior class and Principal I E Mulholland. A complete file exists of the Carey high school annual for 22 years. The collection offers reference value and enjoyment from illustrations.
The National Labor Relations Board ordered National Lime and Stone of Carey Ohio to stop interfering with labor organization by United Construction Workers of the United Mine Workers of America. The board also ordered reinstatement with back pay for one employee retroactive to discharge date.
Round and square dancing every Saturday from 9 to 12 topped by the Victory Boosters music and Walter Ball calling. B. C. Meek secretary invites families for a pleasant evening at the Eagles events.
The Girl's C C CG 4-H club schedules a meeting June 28 at 2 00 p m in the high school. All members urged to attend.
Sgt Francis Tolan of Centerville Pa, a B 17 tail gunner, relays collision over Germany on January 10 1945. Lt John Byers co pilot was missing after his plane was hit. seven crew bailed out and were captured, Byers believed prisoner or dead until later liberation clarified he was not heard from.
Corporal Ralph Karcher of the 592nd Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment has been awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two battle stars for his service in Leyte and Luzon. He also earns the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with battle star after 27 months in the Pacific. His wife Alma and mother Mrs. Anna M. Karcher live near Carey, Ohio.
Mr and Mrs Lester Snyder of eight miles south of Carey received a Purple Heart for their son Pfc Mervin Snyder wounded in action in Germany during February. He is twenty years old and his parents have not received details about the nature of his wounds. The Snyder family formerly resided in Carey.
A Carey mail carrier Rolland Jacobs nearly circled the globe by foot over 25 years covering 125000 miles on his route averaging 5000 miles annually. The story highlights his extraordinary walking mileage and dedication.
Due to wet weather the annual Moose outing occurs this Thursday evening June 21 at 7:30 at the Moose hall in Carey. In prior years the event was held by Tymochtee creek south of Carey.

The Sandusky county farm wage board sets rates for 1940 work in Fremont area fields. Mexican field hands receive 50 cents an hour. prisoners are paid the same. Other wages include 10 cents per tomato hamper, 2 cents per cherry, 50 cents per hour for hoeing and potato work, 3 dollars per acre for combining wheat and oats, 4 dollars per acre for soy beans, and 4 dollars per ton for baling hay and straw.
The 29th annual Smith Baughman reunion will be at Riverside Park Findlay on Sunday July 29. Clarence Baughman of Findlay is president with E C Leader Vanlue as vice president Harald Lee Carey is secretary Milford Crawford Vanlue is treasurer Florence Fenstermaker Vanlue and Mrs Charles Loader Mt Blanchard are corresponding secretaries and Mrs Milford Crawford chairs the program committee.
The Memorial Evangelical Church schedules its Children’s Day program for next Sunday June 24 at 8 00 p m with songs recitations piano solos dialogues and group performances by named children including John Lee Paul Bame Clarabelle Rosman and many others. The program features prayers Bible exercises tableaux pantomime and a benediction as part of the observance with an offering collected.

The Pythian Sisters Caréy temple No 1689 will host the final meeting of the season Thursday at 8 pm. Special business includes several candidate initiations and a birthday dime social chaired by Mrs Howard Presler. The temple closes in July and August with meetings resuming in September.
A regular meeting of the Carey Farmers Community club will be held Monday evening in the K of C hall. Committees in charge are Entertainment C R Crum John Armstrong and Karl F Kraus of Upper Sandusky Refreshment Paul En 3 C D Curry and J Mason Smith of Upper Sandusky.
The Carey Research club will meet Friday afternoon with Mrs. O. L. Shumate hosting on W Bindlay Street. Mrs. Fanny Wedel and Mrs. J. A. Lantz assist. program overseen by Mrs. Will Wright, Mrs. Almon Blue, and Mrs. Ella Smith.
Mrs. S. B. Kloepfer of south of Carey sent four odd eggs to The Times. The shells were rough and uneven with a daisy imprint at each end. The eggs came from a two year old White Rock hen.
W Greeger & Son, John Deere dealers in Carey, bid successfully on W North street lots known as the hitching ground owned by the village. The 2.32 acre parcel excludes 57x198 ft garment factory site leased to W F Creeger & Sons by Snyder Lumber Co.
A downpour failed to dampen crowds at Hancock county fairgrounds Findlay as 3000 spectators watched 156 entries in 18 events. Winners included William Alstaetter Cairo Don Severns Findlay Robert Sellers Fostoria and Roy Pelton Bloomdale amid bridlework by horses Homicide Hitler's Ghost Ramona Ace High.
A series of birth notices from Findlay and nearby towns reports seven pound to eight pound infants born to families in Carey Frenchtown Ft Wayne Bowling Green and Tiffin. Recipients include Ralph Arend Cyril Metzger Louis Allen D Maurice Zahn John Orians and Edward Riester with names Elizabeth Ann Marilyn Margaret and Richard Louis.
Cpl Robert Kidwell of Carey Ohio receives a gavel service award while serving with the 9th Infantry Division in Germany. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Ora Kidwell of 134 East Brown Avenue.
Wyandot County Treasurer Karl F. Kraus announces real estate tax books are open for the June or second half 1944 levy. Books close August 20, 1945.
