County actions, court cases and local notes hit Hancock county

A couple sought a marriage license but the bride-to-be was not a county resident. State inspector BE Pratt investigated car licensing abuses, and Elmer Hilty’s office gained Wayne Hackenberger as assistant. Probate Judge Bitter’s court heard Mrs Margaret Brooks capacity case with witnesses. New law doubling fees for justices, mayors and police chiefs drew discussion. Clerk J C Bdie noted fee increases. Charles Russell, jailed for eleven days for stealing a Victrola, was freed when two locals paid his fine and he planned to move to Marquette Michigan. The two men paid his fine are not related and acted out of sympathy.
