AMVETS Hold Regular Meeting in City Building

AMVETS members met Monday evening in the municipal building where officials reported a growing World War II veteran membership. Adjutant Don Mateet of Columbus noted Lausché support for veterans' resolutions and Jack Tracy discussed plans with state commander Fred Miligan in Columbus. Tracy will travel to Washington by plane Tuesday and return Sunday to Carey for the next meeting at 8 30 p.m.

Carey Kiwanis Hear Youth Problem Talk

The Carey Kiwanis club met at Trubey's restaurant with Frank Edwards presiding. Rev. H. F. Yeager of St. Paul's Lutheran Church spoke on youth problems including delinquency education recreation and money. G. A. Hartman introduced the speaker. Guests Reid Burson and G. W Pickens attended. Next week William Humphrey of Findlay will discuss his Atlantic City Chamber of Commerce delegate experience.

Naval discharge for Donald T. Kummerer S1c

Donald T. Kummerer S1c son of Mr and Mrs Alfred Kummerer of route 3 Fostoria received an honorable discharge from the US Navy June 8 at Great Lakes. He entered the Navy in August 1944 and served in both Atlantic and Pacific areas aboard a supply ship in Tokyo Bay for 11 months.

Social Security Clerk Planned Visit at Carey Office

Miss Maxine Good, claims clerk for the Marton field office, will be at Carey Municipal Building on Wednesday June 19 1946 from 2 00 to 3 00 p m to assist the public. Beginning July the regular schedule resumes 3 00 p m on the third Tuesday of each month.

Mansfield defeated Carey 10 to 3 at Swan field to end the Moose softball team’s undefeated run. Carey had more hits but committed defensive errors allowing Mansfield to score. Orians, Krom and Kitzler boosted their averages with key hits. next meeting set for July 21 at Swan field.

Carey Bowlers Earn 877 From Inter-city Tournament

Carey bowlers collected cash prizes totaling 877 at Marion’s Inter-city bowling tourney held March 2 to May 26. Carey Recreation team earned 45, Heck's 25, and doubles by L Meek and G Walborn won 7. Team placed second then fifth before ending seventh amid 227 five man teams. Members listed for Carey Recreation and Heck's squads.

Pahl Family Reunion Held at Carey Park

The Frank Pahl family reunion gathered 76 members on Sunday June 9 at Carey park. Mrs Sylvester Meyer Fremont was elected president and Mrs J T Stombaugh Carey secretary. Attendees came from Fostoria Fremont Helena Upper Sandusky and Carey. The 1946 gap due to gas rationing, last held in 1944, saw 20 births 6 marriages and 6 deaths in the family. The group planned to meet again on the second Sunday in June 1947 at the same site.

Navy Discharge for Donald B H Yingling S1c

Donald B H Yingling S1c, son of Mr and Mrs William Yingling of South Street, received an honorable discharge from the U S Navy at Great Lakes Illinois on June 4 after 25 months of service. He took part in invasions of Leyte Luzon and Okinawa in the Philippines and served 23 months in the South Pacific. He earned the Asiatic Pacific ribbon with three stars, Philippine Liberation ribbon with two stars, and American Area ribbon.

At the Carey plant Monday May 20 the Carey Cooperative Food Lockers Inc. held its first annual meeting with 56 stockholders present. H S Jones praised the plant materials while Arthur L Sprague spoke on locker plant financing and operation and Eddie Gottfried was commended as manager.

Local Concern Moves 2500 Tons Sawdust in Yard Shift

The Carey Handle & Lumber Co moved 2500 tons of sawdust from its mill yard across West street to lots bought from the H. B. Stief estate. A steam shovel and Lima trucks spent three days filling the pit left by tile manufacture, to curb mosquito breeding and reduce fire hazard from burning waste. The firm plans to mold the sawdust into potential building material as part of a broad effort to recycle waste from the mill.

The Catholic Chronicle notes Rev Norbert M Shumaker Ph D superintendent of schools marked his silver jubilee as a priest. A Gespa school student presented him with a purse of 862 dollars and a large spiritual bouquet in secret with Mary Murnen assisting. He was visibly moved and continued his work that day. Vernon V Arend Receives Army Discharge at Camp Atterbury

Pfc Vernon V Arend son of Mrs Margaret Arend of west of Carey received an honorable discharge from the U S Army June 4 at Camp Atterbury Indiana He enlisted May 26 1944 and served with the Army Air Forces for seven months Later transferred to infantry before going overseas he served with the 15th Infantry Regiment 3rd Division in the European Theater for 14 months He earned the European Theater Medal with a Bronze Star Good Conduct and Victory medals the Army of Occupation Medal Germany He recently served as a guard patrolman between the American and Russian occupied zones.
