The Carey Conservation League holds its second social meeting this Thursday at 9 pm. The event will feature an educational program on conservation at P. J. Pahl's Elm Hills farm. Members bringing guests should notify the feed committee by calling X-3115.
Carey Kiwanis second vice president Cy Baker presided at the July 25 meeting. Dr H K Van Buren spoke on Socialized Medicine with data from the American Medical Society. Next Monday’s speaker is Atty F K Cassel to review Ohio legislature. attendance urged. Publicity Committee.
Robert Mapes of Carey passed the registered pharmacist examination held in Columbus on June 20 and 21. Results were announced at a Ohio State Board of Pharmacy meeting in Toledo on July 20. Mapes works for Marshall Drug Stores in Cleveland and will start at Henney & Cooper in Marion on Monday. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Harry Mapes of Carey.
Mr and Mrs Harold Vaughn and their children Phyllis and Larry return from a two week vacation to Fort Worth Texas. They visited Mr and Mrs W S Mahlie brother of Mrs Vaughn and saw Cow Town Rodeo toured Texas Christian University and the city waterworks where Mahlie has been city chemist for 25 years. The Vaughns also spent 10 days at Little Crooked Lake Brighton Michigan with Dr and Mrs M A Strawbridge and family of Toledo.
Mrs H J Derr of southwest of Carey receives the portable radio for submitting the winning name Mapes Color and Melody Shop for the Carey store recently purchased by Harry Mapes and D L Mapes of Detroit. Judges were L N Zahn A B Wohlers and Herbert H Miller.
Members of the Carey F U A will hold a picnic and skating party at Waterworks Park this Thursday evening. Judy Hill will report on the district conventions she attended in Columbus. All members are urged to be present.
Mrs. John Boyce received an 11 a.m. telephone call from her son, Pvt. John Boyce Jr., who has been stationed with the army in Germany for several weeks.
Brownie troops 12 and 35 will not hold meetings for a period ending in September. Members will be informed when the next gatherings are scheduled.
The third annual Inter Province Conference of the Friars Minor Conventual met at Our Lady of Carey Seminary in July 1941. Attendees included educators pastors and friars from four U S provinces. Clement O Donnell OFM Conv Ph D presided and sessions covered papers on education beginnings of a province and lay retreat movement. Officers elected for an 82 year term: O Donnell president Ziarkowski vice president Benedict Rubeck secretary and Matthew Baran treasurer.
Clifton Coffman recovered from an appendectomy July 6 at Findlay hospital and returned home July 12. On July 14 neighbors gathered at Coffman and Vehrs homes to harvest wheat and share meals, with many local residents helping and wives serving lunch and supper. Patty Kenney and others assisted.
Clifton Coffman expresses thanks to visitors and card writers during his hospital stay and recovery at home in Findlay. He also cites Mr. Bristol for ambulance service and hospital bed use, noting the acts of kindness will be remembered.
Wyandot county Hog Improvement Association will sponsor a tour of the London prison farm and Orton Farms at London on Thursday August 4. Members and families invited. group departs Upper Sandusky courthouse at 7 30 AM. Orton Farms cover 2000 acres and are owned by Procter and Gamble factory. Intensive hog farming is conducted there.
The Arlington homecoming events begin with a street parade at 6 30 this evening. The Carey high school band directed by Lewis Hank will join nine bands in the showcase.
The Carey Style Shop will be closed Thursday and Friday, July 28 and 29.
Harry Myers local druggist attended the Ohio State Pharmaceutical association convention in Toledo last week with his son David. Delegates toured Detroit plants of Parke Davis Co and attended a dinner at the Book Cadillac hotel. A July 20 Toledo Blade photo showed Cyril Sherman of Minster and Myers registering at the event.

Names include Mr. and Mrs. A N Stevens, Wilbur Prindle of Tiffin, Tessie Shannon of Detroit, Dr. R J Semons at Findlay hospital, R L Simon and Janis Lynn of Santa Ana, Miss Jane and David Haford in New York, and many others visiting family in Bucyrus Mt Blanchard North Hollywood and Cleveland.
The New York Central system inaugurated a coordinated rail-track freight service in Ohio on July 12, using highway tractor-trailers with rail transport. It will serve 140 stations along Central lines in Ohio with daily pickups and deliveries, excluding Sundays and holidays.
Mrs Rolland Jacobs fell from a stepladder around noon last Wednesday, fracturing her left arm at the wrist. X rays at Findlay hospital showed both bones broken and the larger bone splintered in eight pieces. She was set by a Findlay physician and returned home on West North Street Sunday. The couple were painting at their home when the ladder slipped and she fell about ten feet.
Herbert Dible of Carey leaves after a 13 day leave with his wife Barbara Mullholand to the naval base at Newport Rhode Island. On August 23 he sails aboard the U S Fiske DD842 for a five month cruise visiting England France Germany and other European ports. The destroyer is to return to the United States January 20 1950.
Jimmy Atkins eleven year old son of Mr and Mrs Mearl Atkins has been awarded his Red Cross intermediate swimmer certificate and is now taking the advanced course Since Memorial Day he has visited his grandparents Mr and Mrs George Atkins at Mannington West Virginia Tom Atkins has been a guest of his grandparents since July 18 and the boys expect to return home about July 30
Revival meetings will begin Saturday evening July 30 at the Church of God 377 Frederick Street conducted by Rev. Hazel Epps of Toledo starting at 7 45 each evening. All are welcome to attend this series announced by Mrs. Della Watkins.

Last week H G Chambers oldest bar member in Wyandot county completed moving his law practice from Dibles plumbing rooms to a new one story office at 122 N Vance street in Carey He bought the building from W E Montague Chambers began practicing in Carey in 1895 after studies at Ohio Wesleyan and reading law with J C Beitler and Beecher Waltermire He has served as mayor and councilman and long participated in local civic life.
Russell Ward, 38, of 167 W Brown Avenue, was thrown from a road grader at the National Lime and Stone Co plant at 1:30 p.m. last Thursday. He suffered fractures of three ribs, a punctured lung, and body bruises. He was treated by a local physician and taken by Bristoll’s ambulance to Findlay hospital. Mrs. Ward brought him home Monday afternoon.
Mr and Mrs E T Holt purchased a 6 room brick house from Mr and Mrs John Walters a mile west of Carey. The sale was handled by Arthur Stoll. The Holts recently sold their farm three miles southeast of Carey to Mr and Mrs Leo Bradman and plan to occupy the new home about October 1.
The Philathea Ladies Bible class of Memoria EB A church will hold its annual picnic Tuesday evening at 6 30 at the home of Mr and Mrs Charles Robison west of Carey. Members and families invited. please bring own table service. Mrs Myrtle Perkins, President.
The annual Summer Festival at St Joseph's Salem township invites all to a fried chicken dinner with trimmings starting at 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 7. In case of rain, the festival moves to Monday, August 8. Fr. Mark and the St Joseph Congregation host the community event.
The WBA will meet Friday evening July 29 at Mrs. S. W. Pahl’s home on Newhard street. A potluck supper will follow the meeting.
Carey All Stars edged Upper Sandusky Buds 8 to 4 in 10 innings at Carey Memorial Park. Pitcher Bob Strahm pitched nine strong innings with 9 strikeouts and two runs allowed, plus two singles and an RBI. Dick Ward delivered the winning run in the 10th with two singles and scored on Ward's hit driven by Strahm.
A 7-pound girl named Donna Ellen arrived at 9 30 a.m. Friday to Mr and Mrs Donnell Hendricks southwest of Carey. She has twin sisters Carolyn and Marilyn, who will be three in August. The mother Ruth Cupp is from Vanlue, and the father is Milton Hendricks of Vanlue. A 7-pound 3-ounce girl named Martha Mae was born Saturday at 5 59 p.m. in Mercy Hospital Tiffin to Mr and Mrs Kenneth Logsdon northeast of Carey. She has three sisters Juanita 6, Janis 4, Ruth Ann 2. The mother Mabelle Risner is of Findlay, and the father Lloyd Logsdon is of Fos torla.
