Pilgrimage to Shrine Begins August 4 With Special Trains

The August pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation runs August 4 to 18. Four special train days bring pilgrims from Cincinnati Louisville Columbus Cleveland and Youngstown with arrivals in Carey. A solemn high mass and a public procession with the Miraculous Image are planned with Bishop Karl J. Alter presiding.

Reunions Gather Across Counties This July and August

Descendants of Judge William Brown plan a July 21 gathering at Carey park with additional family events on July 21 for the Kear and Mullholand clans. Other reunions follow July 28 at Mt Blanchard park Harrison Smith park and Waterworks park Trey with officers named for each group. Receiving Station Ready for Shipping

L. A. Stern of the H. W. Madison Co. plans a new receiving station for locally grown pickles. The facility will be in J. A Newcomer's cold storage building near town on the Fortoria road with Herbert Newhard, Sr. in charge. Pickles will be trucked to Medina plant. Stern or Eugene Pfleger will oversee from Carey.

Highways See 228 Accidents Daily in First Five Months of 1935

The Traffic Bureau reports 3 452 accidents on state highways outside municipalities from January 1 to May 31 1935. There were 269 deaths and 2 610 injuries, averaging 18 deaths and 172 injuries per day. Compared with 1934, accidents rose by 99, deaths per accidents improved from one in 144 to one in 128, and injuries from one in 15 to one in 13.

Pre School Clinic Set For Next Thursday

A pre school clinic for children entering first grade this fall will be held at the Colonel Crawford building on E South Street starting at 8 30 am. Mrs Edmond Pahl will supervise the nurse in charge with examinations by local doctors. Work on the A C Y railway from Carey to Delphos progresses rapidly with crews at both ends. Rails are expected to be in place by September 1 enabling heavier trains at higher speeds with reduced accident risk. Local men are employed on the improvement.

E M Keller of Findlay street learned Sunday of the sudden death of his brother Elmer Keller at Chardon. E M Keller and his son H B Keller attended the funeral and burial in Chardon on Wednesday. Mercy hospital in Tiffin welcomed a 7 pound son for Mr and Mrs Lawrence Spoon of Carey early Monday. A 60 pound daughter was born Friday evening to Mr and Mrs Orval Searfoss at 526 Clinton Court Findlay. The Searfoss daughter is the child of Loren Stahl of E Findlay Street Carey. Pahl Family Reunion Sets 1936 Date at Carey Park

About 150 Pahl family members attended the annual reunion at Carey park. During the business meeting H L Pahl of Carey was elected president and his wife secretary. Attendees came from Cleveland Columbus Toledo Findlay Tiffin Upper Sandusky Ottoville Lima Defiance Fremont Delphos and Carey. The 1936 reunion will be at the same park on the third Sunday in June.

Death of Rev Fr Raymond Wernimont in Sherman Texas

Mrs Julian Bakies of 572 West Street received a telegram Tuesday reporting the death of her brother Rev Fr Raymond Wernimont at 2:30 this morning in Sherman Texas. Funeral and burial services were held at 10:30 this forenoon. He was born near Frenchtown October 13 1856, son of Charles and Mary Johanna La Fontaine Wernimont.

Wreck of Liberty Limited Splits Sandusky Tracks

A 5 15 a.m. crash wrecked the Liberty Limited in Sandusky local, injuring two engineers and many passengers. The front of the engine toppled, nine of ten coaches were damaged, and freight cars were hurled over the right of way. The truck involved crossed into the tracks just before impact. the disaster marred the main line and damaged the station platform and nearby homes.
